Turns out that I might not be getting upgraded wheels and tires

The inside of my tire was destroyed and I was just reading up on it, and since my car was lowered I need camber adjustment plates...

That will run 300 dollars.

If I get way wider tires, I will need an adjustable panhard bar, which would be another 300 dollars. I was ready to buy wheels and tires, I'm just not prepared to spend an extra 300 dollars to do the panhard bar ontop of now having to do camber adjustment plates whether I get new wheels and tires or not. Any suggestions, consolation, maybe I'm wrong?

Thanks all for your help.

Keep in mind, the width difference between a 275 and 285 is only 10mm (less than 1/2"... so only about 0.2" closer to the fender). I can't see how it would make much difference as long as the wheel offset is right. I ran 275/50-17s for a couple years on 17x9s, and there was plenty of room to spare. So I agree with delurker... get the taller tire.

Someone is feeding you a bunch of BS. For example, the BMR adj panhard is about $135 (p/n PHR006). And you'd only "need" it if your axle is visibly offcenter.

Ya, it looks good visibly.

Which camber plates are the best value that I could buy? I'm asking this because I'm going to need this regardless of whether I get new wheels and tires. I'm so on the fence now, part of me wants to spring for it, the other part of me is thinking that I don't want to spend $1300 more than just getting a brand new set of replacement Pirelli's...

I don't know about camber plates, but I corrected a pretty bad negative camber on my car with a couple $10 camber bolts from Summit. It might be a little hard to see in these pics, but here is a before and after. Note the angle of the front wheel:

Ya, looks like a good correction to me. So I can just use bolts so they can adjust the camber more than stock allows without having to get VERY expensive camber plates?

Basically, yes. The top of my wheel was about 1/2" off from the bottom... and it ruined my street tires (the inside edge wore out). After I installed and adjusted the camber bolts, I was able to get them within 1/16-1/8" top to bottom. I was so happy with the results, I didn't even bother to take it back to the alignment shop.

Oh, and if one bolt won't work, you can add a 2nd one on each side for even more adjustability.

These are the bolts I bought: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...0&autoview=sku

Thanks Don for the link, I'm definitely gonna grab two of those.

So it seems as if I'm changing my mind again. In order to combat the rising cost of tires and not being able to rotate them and the concern about the 285's being too wide for my taste I think that I might just buy four of the ones I was going to use on the fronts. I think I will buy four 18x9 rims and then put on some 255's all around. I think this is a good compromise between the extreme thing I was going to do and just keeping my stock wheels and tires.

So I now have TWO questions.

1) I am wondering if there will be a noticable difference in the handling performance of 255 vs. 235's and if aesthetically, the difference in width is even noticable.
2) If I were getting four 18x9 rims, what size should i get that would look good while it's lowered? I mean, what should the second number be in the tire designation? 255/xx-18. Help please.

Thanks

So four 18x9 tires.

Four of one of these two types of wheels, which one should I go with? Take into account treadware difference, but the price difference knowing the Eagle F1's are cheaper AND have 50 dollar cash card if i order 4....

EDIT: 255/45-18 would be an inch smaller diameter than stock 235's. Is this bad? There are VERY few tires available 255/50-18. But having these 255/45-18 means I would need to get a tune to make everything right again....

I don't think so... maybe an 1/8" shorter, but that would be insignificant.

You're right, thanks for following up in this thread so many times Don, greatly appreciated.

So I ordered American Muscle 18x9 Anthracite Deep Dish Bullitts and am wrapping those in four BF Goodrich KDW 2 size 255/45-18.

I'm excited.

Nice choice. I only wish you'd gone 275/40/18 all around.

For the record, here's a pic with 285/40/18 rears on 18x9.5 +43mm offset wheels and 255/45/18 fronts on 18x8 +41mm offset wheels:

That looks great in that pic.

Infinity: I read that 275s rub in the front or are EXTREMELY close to rubbing in the front...

Haven't noticed my 295's in front rubbing anything.

295's in the front! haha, wow, that's huge for the front. well, if those don't rub, i guess 275's wouldn't. Either way, I think what I got will be pretty cool, I could always get 275's after these babies are burned up...
