How much do you think the top speed dropped with the 4.10's. I think the stock top speed is 142 mph, before the computer shuts it down, i could be wrong though.

Me personnally, I don't know. I've never had my car over 120- I guess I don't see the point really. That's just my opinion though- I care more about getting from 0 to 80 asap!! LOL

I know we are talking about the street/ daily driver but I really wonder what they do to 1/4 mile times and "speed" in general. People put in 4.10s and talk about the butt meter but I dont see people posting much about actual lower times. I'm on the fence but would like 4.10s soon.

I don't take my car on too long of a freeway trip and with all this talk of gears lately, i'm considering some myself. This is also my daily driver.

I was told with my rear tire combo 295/45-18 that with my 3:55 rear now, that my rear ratio has dropped a little, maybe to a 3:23?

If I was to get 4:10's and drop them iin... it might put me at 3:73-3:90 ish rear ratio?

that would still get me off the line quicker, up to speed quicker and still be ok for the track road coarses I drive on.

well thats my thinking anyway....

I like the FRPP 4.10's, they usually pop right in the 8.8's with (1) .035 shim. The 8.8 is a strong rear, too. Stronger than a 9"! The pinion is thicker. 4.10's all the way on a manual car!

I went from 12.69 109.170 to 12.461 114.181 N/A

Note: The mph at our track is consistently 2.5-3 mph high compared to a day with the same Density Altitude at E-Town.

I have been thinking about 4.10's as well. I will have to take my car in for the rear TSB to have the clutch pack replaced so I thought that would be the perfect time to do it. But then I put a lot of highway miles on the car and I don't think I want to loose the gas milage with the car. On a recent trip to New Jersey I got 24.7 mpg doing 80 mph where I could. I averaged over 70 MPH for the 1100 miles of the highway portion of the trip up there. So, for me, I think I will have to forget about 4.10s for now. To give you an idea of how much I drive the car, I put over 11,000 miles on it in the first 4 months I owned it.

OK Please show some proof of an 8.8" being stronger than a Ford 9".

I can point you in the direction of many a 1600hp 6 second race car with Ford 9" rear end.

The max I've seen pushed through an 8.8" and living a long happy life is around 800rwhp.

My thoughts were:

If I go with the 3.73's and I don't really feel a difference for the $600 I am going to be upset. So I went with the 4.10's! They are cool in other ways as well besides 1/4 accel. You can be in 4th at 40 and have passing power, you can roll from a stop sign or light leaving in 2nd, and at 65mph in 5th you actually have the ability to pass without downshifting.

Get the 4.10's.

From the factory, fellas. Once you swap the internals of the 9", you're correct, it is bullet proof. FROM THE FACTORY the pinion on the 8.8" is thicker. If I have a stock 9" pinion at the shop I will take a comparative shot. But yes for drag racing, the 9" owns all... even GM 12 bolts, Danas, etc.

3.55's all the way.

I have thrown lower gears in alot of cars and usually if you are not going to the strip, you are better off on the mild side of things.

To me, the car is geared perfect with the factory 3.55 gears. All the shift points are good. You can hit 60 in second without a third shift. You can drop down into 3rd doing 80mph and be right in the powerband. To me, it is a sports car. They need long legs.

But, if you are going to the strip, two tenths is two tenths.

3.55's are nice, but he's gotta have ATLEAST 3.73's if he's going to take this thing to the track with a charger down the road. I think the question on this thread should be 3.90's or 4.10's?

I'm pretty sure that all the '06 GT's came stock with 3.55's in the rear! The '07's are the ones that you have to upgrade!
