What type of gas do you guys plan to use on your new Mustang GT, base, plus or premium?
I was thinking premium, but is it really necessary???

Sorry if this is a dumb question, its gonna be my first mustang ever.

87 is all you need
Anything more, is a waste (unless of course you'd retuned it to UTILIZE it)

The onboard computer should be able to slightly advance the timing to take advantage of 89 octane. The most important thing to remember is to use a Brand Name gasoline. There is a difference IMO

My current car knocks unless I use 89. So switching to 87 will be a nice cost savings for me. I should get the same mpg out of the 05 as my current car.

I use 87 in my '02, and see that the '05 guide recomends using no less than that.
And the '02 is still going strong.....when the new one arrives in my yard and I take it out for a nice long run, I will fill up with 87

Talk about expensive... It'd be like paying for gas in Europe.

In sweden we run on 95 or 98, is that gonna make the engine run better/faster?

Only if they have re-tuned the ECU for it.

I'm hoping one of the tuners will come out with a re-flash or add on module for the computer to run 92 octane. I will get that and gain some hp that way, along with intake and exhaust. With those three I should be able to gain about 20hp.

Thanks for your answer. I wonder why there is such a difference in octane between the US and europe? Filling up with 95 seems like a waste if the care is tuned for 87. Still, not much to do, 95 is the lowest you can get i sweden. :bang:

There may be a difference in how octane is calculated in Europe vs. the US. I know that there are differences in things like horsepower calculations and such, so maybe your 95 octane is the same as our 87, etc.

Anybody know?

87 is what the manual says to use. might even degrade performance using anything else.

European gas octance numbers are calculated differently from U.S. numbers. Base = Normal, Plus = Super, Premium = SuperPlus. Just fill the car up with normal 93 octane (or don't you have that in Sweden? In Germany, there are three types of gas) normal gas, it'll be just fine.

Unless you modify the car or change the timing, 87 is fine. Running a higher octane rating than that actually will cause a small reduction in power and will probably increase fuel consumption.

There have been several threads on this both here and over on Stangnet, so I won't go into all the technical stuff when it's already been explained previously by engineers.

Do a search if you're really interested. Otherwise, just use 87 octane and be happy.
