What supporting mods for an offroad prochamber?
#1
I will be installing a MAC offroad prochamber and i dont want my 02 sensors to go wild... what am i gonna need to do to prevent this? also, will a tune be necessary with the offroad pipe... i dont wanna do that yet.

Well I know on some other older mustangs that I installed off road pipes, they had an 02 sensor wiring harness, that would plug into them, and take care of the CEL. Not sure if one is available yet on the new 05 exhaust systems. good luck.

I wondered about that too - in the past, an offroad pipe would trigger the CEL light within about 200 miles (some more, some less). It was easy to fix, but I just haven't seen anything about it mentioned regarding 2005s. I'd like to go offroad prochamber, but I'm hesitant because with my other air-flow mods (K&N drop-in filter and removal of the HCT) I would not be able to tell if the CEL is because of a lean condition or because of the O2 sensors and no cats. Further, I'm not ready to go to a predator or SCT tuner yet. (want to get all the kinks worked out by the dealership first).

Putting on an off-road mid-pipe will definitely get you a CEL. It happened to me on my '05. They have a MAC ProChamber now available with cats, and you may be safe installing that. But, you never know. Basically, don't do anything other than removing the HC trap or switching your air filter with a K&N without getting a tuner first. You'd also be safe with switching out the pulleys.

I'm not saying it'll come on 100% of the time. Sometimes you get lucky. But I wouldn't get an o/r mid-pipe without assuming it will go off. You need a tune anyway to get the most out of any mod like that. A tuner should be one of the first mods you do. Eric, I just can't see spending $400+ on an off-road Pro Chamber that might get you 10 HP if you are lucky when you could spend $300 on a tuner first and get you close to 25HP. Plus, you'll then have the option to flash your computer to accept any future mods and get the most out of them.

I was just saying it runs fine.

Ahhh, I gotcha. Yeah, mine ran fine too with the CEL on, but once I flashed the computer, not only did it go off, but I could feel a difference. I would definitely flash if you get an o/r mid-pipe. Just my 2 cents.

i dont want a tune yet because i want ford to cover all my TSB's and if i ran a tune.. they might give me some trouble... what do u think about me running MIL's with the offroad pipe?

You can do MIL's, but all your doing is fooling the car into thinking the readings on the rear O2's are ok. If it doesn't bother you too much, you can just roll with the SES on.

I'm not sure anyone (except internal ford engineers) really knows - this new computer system is very diffeerent. In the old cars (pre-05) there was a strong contingent that thought it didn't hurt performance at all. One problem is that you won't know if something else might be triggering the SES light, because it will already be on.
