Just getting my car set up and seeking suggestions for shock settings on the D-Specs with Ultra-Lites.

What are you using? Why? How is the ride / handling / NVH with your settings?

I run mine at 4 for the fronts and 5 for the rears, that’s turns out from full hard. For daily driving this seems to give the best combination of ride comfort and handling. When I want to do some spirited driving I set them at 2 fronts and 3 rears.

3 F - 3.5 R. Ride is great on good roads, a bit rouch on crappy ones. Roads were really bad where I used to live and I ran them 5 F - 5.5 R and it made a big difference. Not sure about the NVH since I did all my susp mods at the same time, but even so, I'm not picking up much more NVH than stock. Well worth it IMO.

 

I changed them a lot when I put them on, but have pretty much stayed with 3F and 3.5R.

 

4 front and rear for daily driving. On the track and for autocross, 3 up front and 1 in the rear.

 

Thinking about this setup also - How hard is it to make the adjustment? do you have to have the wheels off or do you not even do it from the wheel well?

 

Mike, how is it adjusting the rears with the convertible?

 

Adjustments take a minute. Accessible through the top of the strut/shock with a key that comes with the set.

 

On the street I have found that as you go looser the ride improves more than the handling deteriorates. I'm not actually sure where I have mine set now. I had them at about 3 1/2 for months and one day my son said, "Your car is really jumpy." I started backing them off in 1/4 turn increments and the ride became progressively less "jumpy" while the handling remains sharp. I'm probably around 5-5 1/2 which is what Tokico recommends as a starting point. There are some gentle 10mph speed bumps near my house which serve as a good test for any sort of sloppiness or wallowing and at this setting there is none.

I have heard good things about this set up, and it is one I was looking at for the future. This may be a dumb question, but I'm still learning some of this stuff, as you are making the adjustments, does it affect the ride height? If so, can you all post some pictures?

Only 2 weeks into that set-up with a vert as well. I'm on the soft side now, 7 out all around. Roads in the Northeast stink.

BTW if you have Shaker 1000, you can't get at that shock without removing the trunk woofer. I bought these (yet to install) to resolve. Not sure if it is long enough -- will report back.

I saw those, as well, and planned on installing them when I get D-Specs.

 

I have the remote adjusters for the rear -- they cost about 20 bucks from StangSuspension -- they work great -- it is like the key is in and extended. I'll post some photos -- the biggest trouble was getting them in over the Shaker 1000. With those, you can adjust rears just reaching in the trunk. Fronts on top of struts. Both simple.

I haven't played with them much as I'm not driving in bad weather.

I've driven some other set-ups and can't find fault with these. I don't think that there is any question but that the ride, handling and NVH are better than stock.

Those are the remote adjusters that I referenced in the previous post. They work wonderfully. You'll love them. You're going to have to remove the subs again to get them installed -- but after that, you just turn the ****.

 

Adjustements to the shocks/struts do not alter the ride height. Attached is a side view of my car -- showing the lowering with this setup. Also front and rear pictures. They should give you a good idea of the lowering. You're looking at it with 235/50/18s. I'll post pictures of the adjustment points when I can get home and take some photos.

 

The D-Specs do not affect ride height.. There are some other dampner/shock systems out there which allow you to adjust height.
