At what RPMs are you shifting your 5 speed?

I am trying to get everything I can out of my 2005 5 speed and have tried a bunch of different shift points and it seems my car works best shifted at 6000. I have had people telling me to shift it at 6500 but the car seems flat up there. Is anyone successfully shifting higher than 6000? I have Pro Racer software so I can modify the tune if there is a trick to making power over 6000. Car is NA with a JLT, BBK X pipe, and FRPP axle back.

I shift higher than 6000 but I may have a little more pull up there than you do.......

When I was NA I wouldn't shift much higher than 5900 or so, the car was pretty much flat above that.

When I was NA I shifted around 6300 rpm , but now I have to start shifting at 6000 rpm or I hit the rev limiter ...

Is it safe to shift above 6000 ? Especially for us blown guys ? I am weary of shifting too high since my Whipple is at 10psi and I am putting down around 450rwhp.

Stock rev limit is set to 6250 so I think it's safe to assume it's perfectly safe to take it that high. However the Spanish Oak processor is designed to richen the mixture during the last 250 rpm before redline so if you still have your rev limit set to 6250 that would explain why it feels "flat" after 6000.
I have long tube headers with an x-pipe and have my rev limit set to 6500. I shift at 6200 thus avoiding the rich condition that the processor initiates during that last 250 rpm.
In regards to blown applications. With the stock pistons any boost over 6 psi is putting forces on those pistions that they were never designed to deal with so I'd keep at to 6000. With a blower such as a twin screw (or any SC that is not a centrufigal type) you've got boost starting off idle right up to 6000 anyway so there really isn't any need to take it past 6000.
The NA people might want to rev a little higher but the stock camshafts don't have enough duration to let it breathe past approx 6200 anyway so unless you are running aftermarket cams and maybe ported heads I don't think there's any point in going past 62 - 6300.

Im not to far ahead of you shifting at 2500 rpm. I didn't even know it was safe to shift past this. Im going to be dangerous and shift at 3000 tomorrow. Hah

In all seriousness. I didn't know it was safe to shift above redline. I'd always been shifting at jsut shy of 6k.

From everything I've read and seen in terms of dyno charts, a NA 5-spd peaks out at about 5950. Factory redline set to 6250 and the bright red line at 6K with the 250 Spanish Oak slug factor. I moved mine to 6400 with a DiabloSport, but I shift at the line and get my best results. You may not need the extra 400 RPM, but moving the limit up will guarantee the best performance at 6K.

All that being said, my tune is relatively "fat" and I'm not street racing or even drag racing. I just like to have everything right in the event we leave the occassional ice-cream night and need to show off.

I was just in a shop during a dyno run with a Whipple and they cut it at 6K. I asked if the car would build more power provided they kept going and he said..."YES, but I dont' get paid to hatch motors." So, if the tuner gets nervous about putting more than 460 RWHP down with a stock block, that's probably a good place to cool out.

I agree with what you say, and my goals in driving are similar.
My limiter is set to 6500 and I try to shift at 6000 when I am getting on it.

yah,

thanks for reaffirming that. Also, I must say that SC Stang guys should definately invest in a shift light. SC Stangs, especially twin screws, build RPM fast! I set my raptor at 5800.
