What good is an Xcal2 after you upload the tune?

Ok,

So I ordered a CAI, xcal2 and tune from Brenspeed. After I upload the tune, what can I do w/the xcal2? Is it paperweight until I need another tune? Is the data logging feature worth anything? Can I create tunes?

Thanks

Walt

sure you can tweak your tune or data log, but it really comes in handy with you need to check TC's.

You can't truly create tunes without the SCT software; plus without an understanding of the car's computer you probably wouldn't want to anyway.

Just way till you upload the tune and take the car for a drive; you'll love having your newfound "paper weight" LOL!

sorry for butting in but I just installed my sct from breenspeed and I was wondering if anyone has had a need to change anything or is it usually perfect the way they send it to you ? I mean the air fuel ratio and that stuff. Also I think the car idles a little high [850 rpm] and I noticed you can adjust that also, will this have any ill effect at all ? THANKS

Hey Smileyjoe,
Do not touch Brenspeeds tune. It will be as good as you can get it without having a custom tune done on a dyno. If you want to adjust the idle a tad go for it but I think a manual idles at 850 from the factory. Do not touch any other parameter. My suggestion is to just drive it awhile and if it needs tweaked a bit...just call Brent @ Brenspeed.

Thanks Scott
I love the difference it made. I still don't know if the bbk cai was the right choice but it is the one they recommended so I went with it. Seem's like everyone is running the jlt or C&L. The BBK looks really good and seem's to be very good quality though.

Just be sure you keep your tuner where you know where it is and can find it if needed. Maybe in a plastic storage bag if you intend to keep it in a garage that is not climate controlled. Just a thought, cold this winter and hot next summer.

The best part is that it checks codes on any OBD II cars.
I used mine to check out my dad's Lincoln.
He had a misfire and it said cylinder #5 was where it was at.
He changed the plug wire and "voila" it was fixed.
Go ahead and impress your friends.

There is all kinds of stuff to adjust other than the tune itself.
As stated the tune will be better off left alone as Brenspeed has given you the best that there testing has shown for your application.
Other adjustments are shift timing and pressure for the automatic trans, setting rev limiters, speed control and idle rpms in neutral and drive for just a few. As always before returning your car to Ford for anything return the tune to stock or let them know its there.

Hmm. I adjusted the rev limiter down from the Brenspeed tune. I didn't feel comfortable with the possibility to go too far into the red.

Question, because I don't have the manual in front of me, but if I adjust something like that on the 87 tune, then I want to go back to how they Brenspeed originally shipped it to me, will the unit let me go back to their default custom tune? I don't seem to recall seeing an option.

Yes, just stay out of adjustable parameters or if you do reset it.
