Like the title says, what gears for an Auto Tranny? 4.30 Are they easy to install? I'm a so so mechanic, but no diff experience.

I have 4:10 in mine. No they are not easy to install correctly. Do you even have the required tools to do this job? Stay with what you know best and hire all the others you have a question about.

 

I thought 4:10's were for a manual tranny's??? Guess that's why I'm asking. No special tools, I will let someone else install. Anyone know what the normal labor charge is to install these? I also read only go with FORD Gears. Is that right?

As you can see, I'm new to this forum. Thanks for the help.

 

I agree with Bill - 4.10s are the way to go. Be sure to include some type of programmer to recalibrate the speedometer. I am an accomplished tech and paid someone else to install mine. The company I used specialized in gear installations and mine are perfectly quiet.

 

410's should be the max on an automatic. I have read some think 373's are better for the auto. About $500.00 for gears and install is a about the going price.

I've been running FRPP 4.10s with my auto tranny for more than 6 months (and over 11,000 miles), and I absolutely love them. They are perfect. I had them installed by a racing shop, and I have never had any noise or any other problem. IMO, 4.30s might be too steep for a daily driver, and 3.73s aren't steep enough for weekend racing.

 

Don you might step back up to the 3:73 after the KB install.

George what do you think about this? Do you still have 4:10s in yours or have you stepped up to 3:73s?

 

Sounds like 4:10's for a daily driver in the Auto are the ticket. Thanks for the help.

 

Or I might run a taller tire... we'll see what works best.

 

I have 4:10's, but I heard that 3:90's from motive are the way to go for AUTO's.

 

Personally, I would not use Motive gears. I have had great luck with the FRPPs, so I'm sticking with them. Why tempt fate? LOL

I've got 4.10's in my Auto....fast as heck. Gas Mileage went down though.

 

How bad did it drop? I drive about 85 miles a day round trip to work (all highway)and don't want to be able to pass everything but a gas station.

From what I have read going to the 4:10's will cost you 2-3 mpg and raise your RPM to about 2800 at 70 mph. There is a down side to most mods of some kind. If you are using your car as a weekend warrior then go for the 410's. If I were driving 85 miles daily I might rethink it. Especially since I am running a 93 octane already.

At 70mph, your rpms would be in the 2500 range. I can get close to 25mpg with the cruise control clicked on 70. Even at 75-80 (~2800rpm) I can still average 22-23mpg.

 

I need to come out there to get some of that good California gas!! With stock gears @ 70 mph I am lucky to get 22/23 mpg. And I am running underdrive pullies and electric water pump to get that. I must be doing something wrong. :scratch:

 

At 70 I am at 2200-2300 rpm but the best I can do for milage is 19.5-20.2 with the stock gears.Also running Bamma chips 93 tourque tune.I would kill to see 25 mpg.
