What the F@#%
I brought my car to the dealer today to replace the ring and pinion because I was getting a whistling/howling noise on the highway. I pick the car up and the differential is SILENT for 5 miles of highway driving, then like a scene from a horror movie it starts up again. I guess it goes back to get "fixed" again.

I just don't get it. Ford installs thousands of 3:55, 3:73 and 4:10 gears every day in Explorers and pickups. I personal have 4:10's in a 98 Explorer and 3:73"s in my 93" pickup. No howling or noise at all. I have read all of the horror storys from coast to coast of guys having issues with their gear installs. If you are using good gears (Ford Racing) than it can only be the installation. Lets face it. How many gears you think the guys at our local dealerships install every month. I know none of this helps you Dustin but I just have to believe it is the installation and not the gears.

Prolly changed the gear oil and added some anti-friction and sent you on your way........or did absolutely nothing at all and sent you on the way. Would be interesting to see what Ford ended up being charged for.

They charged Ford for a ring and pinion install including gears, shims and oil. That was on the sheet
