I asked this very question today at the dealership... they told me 'you're going to run into trouble with that... will probably void the engine and ecu warranty if not everything else with it'

Ask that question at an authorised SVT dealer

I was in the parts dept. and they were selling a super chip thing, so I asked if they sold the sct x-calibrator, he said no. I then asked if there would be warrenty issues using a reflashing device, he did not say no but said they would not be able to tell if it were flashed back to stock.

I know by law they cannot deny your warrenty for aftermarket things as long as they do not disable emissions devices but they might make life hard on you. Like the guy who had the know strut problem but had already put eibachs in and was told his warrenty wouldn't cover the cost to fix the problem because the new springs could have contributed to the struts being bad. Would be hard to fight that.

The service department at my dealership said a tune would definitely void the warranty. I read post on other threads about this where some dealers say it's ok. I think it varies by dealership.

From what I understand, if you mod your vehicle and the mod caused the damage then it will not be covered under warrenty. However, if the problem is completely unrelated to the mod then it will be covered.

The best approach is to talk to your dealer. If they say okay great. If not it's really not worth the hassle. If you need the warranty, then you should wait till its up before you start modding your car.

The law allowing for the use of non-factory parts on your car applies to things like stock replacement air filters, oil filters, etc. This law was created so you could put a fram air filter in your car instead of taking your car to the Ford service department and having them replace your filter without them voiding your warranty. It does not apply to parts designed to increase the power output of your car beyond the factory limits. Regardless of the law, if they decide to void your warranty because you reflash the computer the only way to get them to change their mind would be to take them to court. It would cost a great deal and you probably wouldn't win.

What about if you resore the stock tune and disconnect the negative cable to wipe out the memory on the ECU. I believe they would never know the difference. I was having a falt code because of the CEL and I did just that before taking it back to the dealer to have it checked and they could not even read any codes at all.

Ehh.. Im not saying whether you're right or wrong, but almost and not quite. It -does- "...apply to aftermarket parts designed to increase the power output of your car beyond the factory limits."

No one is tied to one dealership. If a certain dealership will not honor the warranty work take it to another and another until one will. You can get warranty work done at any Ford dealership. You don't have to have it done at the dealer you bought your car from. The way I understand it is like several others have said. If the mod itself did not cause the problem you are taking the car in for than they cannot void your warranty. If you are having problems with your Shaker 1000 and you have reflashed your computer there is nothing they can do about it. If you drop a cylinder and you have reflashed your computer. Then you might have a problem.

i have a deal with the guy who sold me the pony. He has been long friends of the family for years now. He knows what I'm into with tuning cars and putting on mods. When I dropped off my car yesterday for service, I went into his office and I spoke to him. I told him about the situation with the new car and how the computer in this car is soo tight. And I said to him, I'm not wanting to go to the extreme with this car, just a few minor parts here and there to rev up the horesepower and torque. He asked me what kind of parts. I told him underdrive pulley, he said thats not a problem, cause I told him about the other pulleys that come with the kit so it balance's out the car. Then I told him exhaust, he said any kind of exhaust is fine, as long as you don't touch the catalytic converters. If you want to replace the headers with like Ford Racing headers or any other aftermarket company thats fine, just keep the catalytic, then you can go from that to a cat-back with new pipes and everything. Then I told him about the CAI and the SCT. He had never heard of the SCT. And I pretty much told him what the SCT does and how using this device will really get the CAI to work and tweak a few things here and there in the computer. He told me thats fine, but the thing that I have to do is reflash it to stock and run the car a couple of times on stock before I bring the car in for service. In the end he told me, "Paul, your a great guy and I've known ur dad for years, I don't care what you do to the car. You can put any kind of mods on the car, up to you, but if you have a problem with the car with any mods, bring the car to me. If you bring it to another dealer, they'll void ur warranty. So bring it to me anytime now that u do a mod to the car, and the SCT, make sure u flash it back to stock b4 u bring it in for service, or I'll get heck by the mechanic by letting you go with a tuned computer."

He's a great guy, def a guy I can trust, thats why I always buys cars from him!

So basically it depends on your dealer.....

So you can put headers on without doing anything to your warranty? Also, is it not alright to replace the stock cats w/ aftermarker high flow cats?

Im not talking about a ton of aftermarket stuff, Im talking about a tune and a CAI. Very simple to install and very simple to remove, 15 minutes tops. Before I took my car back to the dealer I reset the computer and they said they tried to read the computer and couldn't tell any fault codes when in fact the CEL was on for a reason. Flashing your computer back to stock only takes about 1 minute with either diablo or SCT tuners and pulling the negative cable only 1 more minute. This resets the computer, what is so hard to understand?

Bone stock and will stay that way until the warranty runs out. Not even tire valve caps. I guess i'll get used to being passed by Escalades and granny cruisers until 36/36 goes by...First model year car has the potential for some real expenses, aftermarket still hasn't caught up with the design anyway...I can wait until the right 8 step path to more horsepower is clearer. I'll hit 36K miles in less than 36 months.
