What's really interesting is that I had a fairly extensive groan at a specific speed/rpm range (70-73mph @ 2300 rpms in any gear). Since I found it easy to avoid that range, I did nothing about it, as I considered it to be a minor issue that I could live with, and wasn't too thrilled at the prospect of numerous trips to the dealer as it's one of those problems that can be very hard to diagnose and pin down.

What ended up happening is that sometime after about 10,000 miles, it went away all by itself

So in the end, doing nothing worked in my favor!

I wish you had found out what that was because my car does the exact same thing. I am also not crazy about taking my car in for service, who knows how long they will need it or if they can even hear or feel it.

This is an Early TSB Used on Few Cars. It is my belief that the New Tsb on the rear axle gears is the True Fix.

my theory is the noise comes from the posi unit. ford had those issues with the explorer also. they use the same posi unit as the new mustangs(31spline). while rotating my ring gear i found the backlash varies by as much as .006! in other words the ring gear is off center slightly. definitely enough to cause harmonics and vibration. oh and my 06 auto has them too. wonder why some do and some don't. i was told it was a mid year change for '05...guess not.

It sounds to me like NJ3 is right. Are only the Auto guys finding these behemoth contraptions under their cars. My stick '05 doesn't have them either.

I don't have them (FEB '5 build w/manual tranny) but I have had a ridiculous shutter/vibration sometimes when I really accellerate hard. At first i thought it had something to do with the TCS, but I've had the same problem with it off also. Any input?

Frank, is it at low speeds? It's probably wheelhop.
