So who read the article in the October MM&FF testing the Vortech kit? It's essentially the same as what I have. I put down 388hp on a hot day. They put down right in that same range (same car but a manual trans and stock exhaust). Then they ditched the Predator tune (same as what I have) and went with a Superchips custom tune. They gained around 70rwhp to put it around 450rwhp!

I knew my tune was bad, especially after seeing the A/F into the 9.x for a good chunk of the run, but roughly 70 more HP from just the tune? I'm shocked!

You can guess what I'm buying tomorrow...

Let us know..I would also ditch the predator as well if the SCT produces that much more hp over the Vortech/predator combo

I doesn't matter what brand tuner you use just the tune in it.

When are we going to see some time slips.Trying to see if the charger is worth it.I am not impressed with 388hp for 5,000.
oR more.

Great point, one that often gets overlooked.

Weedo, understand that you got a "canned" tune with that Predator. Think of it as a starting point that needs to work safely under all kinds of conditions. It's going to be pig rich.

I would get a custom tune on any blown car no matter who the tuner is made from.

If you want to save the expense of getting a whole new tuner, get it into a Diablo shop and have it dyno/street tuned.

There is no shortage of shops in the Valley to choose from just go to Diablo's website and look under dealers.

Like Sixty Six said.I had the "canned " predator tune installed in the car as a starting point as well and it dynoed out at 388/392 if I remember correctly..right in that range and it was a very safe calibration in all parameters. No complaints as the car rang great, drivability awesome and for the everyday user this is a fine tune IMO.I figured there was more there since the car was rich throughout the rpm range and sure enough there was about 20-25 extra HP that we got out of the kit with dyno tuning on a laptop and the predator software.Adjusted the fuel curves along with the injector pulse width and "voila"..more Hp to be had.The canned tunes Vortech and the other suppliers offer seem to generate pretty close to the HP claims they are making, but generally speaking you can always get a bit more out of these kits with simple dyno tuning to make everything optimum.

There's NO WAY you have much experience modding cars if you're not impressed with a simple $3800 blower going from 250rwhp to 390rwhp (on a hot day in Arizona) at 9.6-10.2 A/F with a base tune. 140hp at the wheels for $3800, not a "good deal"??? You're crazy! It doesn't get much, if any, better than that. Not to mention, as others have, there is a good 20-70hp at the wheels left in the Tune. Crazy Horse got 452rwhp on a bone stock GT.

Take my exhaust for example: lets say I spent $1,000, i've gained about 8hp at the wheels. Now tell me, what is a "better deal" than a blower???? How much have you spent so far and how much HP have you gained?

SixtySix: On another note: there isn't one shop in the Valley that can tune my car. I've called them all. No one can tune it because no one has the Diablo software for the '05's. Diablo sent me to Alabama to "Running with the Devil" for a "mail order" and after 3 messages and emails, they've never called or emailed me back. I'm going to see if SCT has anyone in the Phoenix area that can tune my car.

Really? Did you talk to Duffee Motorsports?

Heck he was going to get my Predator for me back at the beggining of the year, but I got it somewhere else much cheaper. He certainly didn't lead me to believe that he couldn't tune the car. We had quite a long discussion about tuning it in fact

I also have the problem of not being able to get my 05 custom tuned in the phoenix metro area. As far as I know, AMP doesn't have an in house dyno, do they? I called SVC Motorsports, they were very nice, but said they don't have the software yet for the 05's. I have not tried Duffee Motorsports yet, maybe they can do it for me. I know that my tune from DTP for my JLT CAI works fine, but it isn't great for my setup with my offroad xpipe. I was told that i would not need a new tune, and I don't...but i there are some flat spots, and I am running a little too rich, so I think the answer is a custom tune, just dont know where yet.

Ok, so here's the deal. AZ Dyno Chip (Chandler and 56th street) can do (and has done) full custom tuning using the SCT. I just got off the phone with them. They're ordering it next day air and I'll be on the dyno getting tuned tomorrow at 3pm!

They recently did one like mine (but a stick) and used the SCT "base" tune (no custom tuning) and gained ~50rwhp and 40rwtq over the Predator Tune he had in there. I'll post my results tomorrow if I can, otherwise some time over the weekend. His car was making the same power as mine so I'll expect similar results. I'm also going to have them tune a 2nd tune for 100 Octane which we can get at the pump. Should be interesting!

They are listed on the Diablo website as a custom tuner, but like i said before, no dyno. I guess they got the software, and are getting hooked up for full custom tunes now? That would be nice. They are very nice, and good people to work with.

I don't have enough done yet to warrant a custom tune, but depending on which CAI I get, I may need one soon. I sure hope Duffee's wasn't leading me astray. He tunes on the street, but does have a dynojet as well to get horsepower/torque readings.

Hey Weedo, you still selling your car?

I've decided to keep it. I'll have the Magnum SRT-8 as the "daily driver" and the Mustang will be the toy. My wife may decide she wants the SRT-8 so if I sell the Mustang, I'll be stuck with nothing. And what could be better than driving either a blown Mustang or a 425hp Wagon?
