Video - BamaChips 91 Race Tune - Awesome!

I thought I was going to stick with Doug's 91 Performance Tune, but after trying his Race Tune, I found a keeper!

Hi Bill,

Looks like you just slapped up the video. What would you say are the differences between the 91 Perf Tune and 91 Race Tune? I was thinking of getting the 87 Torque, 91 Torque and 91 Perf Tunes from Doug but maybe it's worth swapping out the Performance for the Race tune.

Thanks

Yes, I just threw it together. No fancy transitions or music, didn't think they were necessary, it just get's down to business!

Of course, opinions will vary when comparing the Performance and Race tunes. From my observations, the Performance tune felt strong all the way up to redline, nice and consistent power.
With the Race tune, it feels a bit touchier in the throttle, especially above 3000 PRM's. For instance, when rolling in 2nd gear with the R's at 3k, the Performance tune would push you back into the seat when you mashed on the GO pedal. In comparison, when doing the same with the Race tune, it's a definite neck snapper. It really climbs up on the R's quickly.

FYI.. Doug doesn't do an 87 Torque, only a Performance. And I had the 87P, 91T, and 91P on my XCal2 when I got it. But, after running the 91 tunes, the 87 is outta there! Not really sure why I got the 87 initially.

Nice video. I just changed from the 89 tq to the 91 perf and was really surprised at the difference. First hard accel it locked the inertia reel on my seatbelt up which I thought was pretty impressive. By the way Bill the tutorial on uploading a tune to the tuner you did really helped me out. Thanks.

I have the 93 perf tune to go but am waiting to get a few more miles on the car before switching to it. Right now I only have 800. I can't wait to see the difference from the 91 to 93.

Another nice feature presentation by Bill. Better take it easy on that car if you're planning to pass it on to your son one day. I saw your write-up on the MustangWorld website. How's the tires holding up...?

Are you purposly making the tires spin or is it just doing that going through the gears. Shweet vid, can't wait to get my intake/tuner combo from doug!

He doesn't need my help! Doug's tune sell themselves.

The car's fine, it's the tires I'm worried about.
I don't drive like that all the time, only when testing out a new performance mod.

Yup, I'm spinnin' them for show. In the last 2 clips, I shifted into 2nd early (you can probably see) as 1st revs out QUICK! From the momentum, I can carry the tire burning all the way through 2nd. I let off on the gas as the rear started to drift out on me.

wow, sounds great man

can you give some details of what the different tunes "feel" like on the butt dyno?

what exactly is the difference between the torque, performance and race tunes???

I know, I know, who cares about mpg...but seriously...have you checked? It's not like 5mpg is it?

I've also been running 91T so I'd like to know that too. Haven't even tried 91P yet. I've been thinking about getting the 91R ever since it came out and I think that vid just pushed me over the edge.

Are any of the tunes supposed to make the RPM's drop faster between shifts? My 91T still drops as slow as stock.

Well, I posted this several posts above this, but y'all may have been in too much of a shock after watching my video to read it.

So here it is again..

Let me add to this now. The race tune seems tuned for the (Autocross) track, Like when coming out of a turn, you have the power to slingshot out from the apex.

The Performance is best suited for the ones who live above the 3500 RPM range (like me ).

The Torque is great for providing the throttle response from off idle to around 3500 RPM's, like everyday street driving.

Keep in mind guys, these are my observations of the 3 91 tunes that I tried out. If you have an Auto, it may behave totally different.

Jason: I know what you mean. When revving while you're stopped, the tach goes down slow as stock, right? But, when I drive now, I do notice the R's drop much quicker between shifts. On the stock tune, the R's would not drop quickly enough between shifts and it really bugged me.

Thanks, Bill. I'll ask Doug if he can do something about getting them to drop faster.

TexasStang and I were actually asking about how the torque tune felt compared to the race tune.

From asking Doug this is what I found out about the race tune. The acceleration input is not very linear. Some of you that have the race tune can try this. But its almost impossible to take off "kinda" fast. It feels like its an all or nothing kinda thing. Take the Perf. or Tq tune and you have a little more control over the throttle position while accelerating. The race tune feels faster to most people because its increasing acceleration w/o the need for you to push the pedal as hard. Thats my observation at least. If you do some 20-60 or 5-60 runs w/ the performance and then with the race tune you will notice almost no difference in times. There is no more power to be had from the race tune (Doug confirmed) it's simply designed for even quicker throttle inputs. I loved it for awhile then I switched back to tq/perf because I got kinda tired of not being able to control the first 25% of acceleration.

Thats an excellent description then, no extra power just modified throttle response. Tempted to give it a try...
