Used Kooks LT questions

A week ago I won an auction on ebay for some used Kooks with catted x pipe ($400). They came in yesturday and one of the tubes on the passanger side has some dents in it, will it be ok to use or should I get it repaired first? Can it be fixed easily and is this much discoloration normal, Thanks.

First, welcome to the site. Second, without seeing some pix of your headers I would recommend taking them to an exhaust shop and getting advice from someone that can see them in person.

if those dings were on the driver- side, would'nt even be hesistant ( common to make a few dings)... but after seeing those pics u should be good to install, just dunno why they put dings on the passenger-side, an such an odd place on the header.

Yea, don't!!! When I did my borla headers the engine had to be lifted 4-6" to get the driver side in and the steering colum disconnected. much easier with a lift.

It's a PITA but it can be done. I did it in my garage. A set of tiny monkey hands would be useful.

i installed LTs in my garage with the car up on 4 jackstands. a few tips, remove the battery and tray for better access, and when you put the new headers up, leave a few of the OEM exhaust manifold studs in place so you can hang the headers on them while you thread in the first few bolts.

are your headers with the 3 inch collector and 3 inch x-pipe, or my eyes playing tricks on me?

No they are 2 1/2 inch. How did you lift your motor for the install. Did you use a floor jack and some wood and the oilpan?

sounds like you've been researching the install, thats ur first step before turning any wrench. this job is nothing more than a pain... w/ that said most anyone who reads can do-it. when ur ready to install and lift the motor, 2-3 inches will do. gently rock the engine side-side to slip the header pass. if ur willing to go slow, it really shouldnt be a pain... i did the job in my garage ALONE. didnt disconnect the steering colum either. DONT make extra work... get the job done and get-out.

i used a huge old bottle jack with a 2x4. i put the 2inch side of the 2x4 across the front bolts of the oil pan and jacked it up from there.
