Hey guys,

Decided to start a new thread to showcase the development of our twin turbo kit for the 2005 GT.

For new readers, you can find the original thread here.

We are about 95% done with our prototype kit. Our ECM is over at SCT Tuning in Florida to have some minor tweaks performed before we can actually begin tuning it. We should have it back by the weekend and tuning will commence.

I've snapped some pictures of the kit in its current state. Please keep in mind that many of the pieces are still prototype.

Feel free to post comments and questions.

Thanks,

Darryl

Couple of quick questions:

-Any idea on the complete cost of the kits?
-How much boost do you plan on running?
-What kind of Mitsu turbos does the kit come with?
-Pics make the intercooler look small, how much hp is it effecient to(Estimated)?

You know guys, I REALLY think you need to test it on a Torch Red GT also. There might be some differences that you will need to take into acount... I'd be happy to let you use my car (when it arrives!) for the test. I wouldn't even charge. Just leave the system on when you are done and I'd say we were square!

PS: Get those estimated package prices posted ASAP!

Wow. The more I look at the pictures the more I am impressed. The piping and the welds look really good! Does anything need to be relocated or is the kit completely bolt on? By the way the pipes run it looks like you were able to get around everything. Can we see a couple more under hood shots and one without the front bumper? I would say "price???" but everyone else already did :P

edit - going back to your first post youre saying the car will be running this weekend?

Hey Horsepower Junkies:

Forget Price...it's about 'cost'.

What's the fine print in the warranty gonna say?

The Air Flow Meter is there. You just can't easily see it. It's located on the upward pipe towards the throttle body. And yes, we did have to machine a special pipe/housing for the meter.

- Cost is still up in the air. Give us about a week to get a good idea on cost
- We will be running 7-8psi
- These are hybrid turbochargers. Mitsubishi housings from 16G mixed with Garrett wheels. In twin form, these turbochargers can support 800rwhp on the GT.
- The intercooler is sized well for this setup while still leaving room for upgrade. There just isn't a lot of exposed breathing room because of the front bumper's small mouth so it seems really small. The dimensions are 18.5" x 12" x 3.5". While not being the widest, it's definitely thick and can support 700-800CFM. Definitely more efficient than any aftercooler we've seen.

Our prototype stang is equipped with an oil scavenge pump to pick up the turbocharger's return oil and send it back into the motor.

Here's an interesting little tid bit. So far the only piece we've really had to permanently modify is the plastic splash guard to route some piping. Even our turbo oil returns are "bolt-on"

Of course we're not saying your warranty will still be intact. But it will be very easy to return the car to 99% stock form.

Id venture to guess that the car will produce in excess of 450rwhp(assuming supporting mods) on 8 lbs of boost. Tuning is the key to making high horsepower reliably. I have a friend who has a custom built turbo on his 95 Maxima that puts down a little more than 500 fwhp with a bone stock engine. A lot of people will say that the VQ 3.0 isn't very boost friendly from the specs, but his car is tuned very efficiently. Also, you have to remember though that 7lbs in a S/C isnt equal to 7lbs in a TC. The TC running at 7lbs will be more efficient. I am starting to save my money for this kit, might be a while though

Ultimate Racing,

Since you're asking us for our opinions, this is what I think. I really like the kit, very clean install, but what I don't like is the FMIC(Front mount intercooler for the uninformed). Although it is thick, which makes up for it being short, it just isn't very visually pleasing. I would just think that a FMIC that is maybe a little longer and not as tall would work better, both in getting some more air through it and in the looks department. Something like this maybe:
