Thumbs up Tuning with Ryan @American Muscle/Bama

Gotta give props to Ryan for busting out a quick update. I called and asked if he could compare my shift schedule/points to Scott's (70machowner) and make some adjustments to mine.

Long story condensed. A few hours later I had a email w adjusted tune. Just another example of killer service since dealing with him @ American Muscle/Bama Tuning.

Loaded tune and it was spot on. If your currently running a diff tune you owe it to yourself to try his out.

I'm also loving my new SCT XCAL 3 with Bama tunes.

Yeah I never really gave Ryan @ AM the proper kudo's for working the bugs out with me. When I put the 4:10's in it created havoc with my auto trans tune. Everything that worked great with the 3:31's went out the window with the 4:10's. He stuck by me...listened closely to what I wanted and was experiencing and made the right adjustments. It took a few trys but the result is the best I've ever had.

Glad to hear you two got your tunes dialed in for your automatics. Not easy to make them shift right with mods, but so satisfying when it's all done. I just installed a new tune a few days ago with revised shift points and hit the track today, setting a new personal best 1/4 mile run in my '07 GT automatic.

Colby,

I just ordered a new tune from AM and asked Ryan to hook me up with your tweaks for the 4.10s. I needed a new tune anyway after my dealer re-flashed my computer rendering my XCAL2 useless. I’m super excited to try this out!

Hope you like it Tim. Some may think it's a tad aggressive.

Our upshifts for 1-2, 2-3, 3-4 are set at about 3200 rpm and the trans will "not" shift up until it hits that rpm. About as close to feeling like a manual trans as you can get with an auto. Hope you get it soon. Ryan is usually very quick.

So it won't upshift even if you completley let off the gas? That sounds great but 3200 might be a little on the high side for me. I'll try it out and revise down if too agressive, I'm thinking somthing in the 2500 range but won't know until I drive it. Right now it shifts before I even hit 2k which really bites!

Nope. If you don't make the rpm it won't upshift. It really isn't bad once you get used to it. The advantage is you are keeping your rpm up in every gear and you are not lugging around and than have to wait on the trans to downshift once you give it the gas.

When I initially read your response I was thinking I'd email Ryan and tell him to tone it down from the get go.

Then on the way to work I came to the realization that the car would essentially be sitting just below the powerband at all times, ready to take off like a rocket at any given moment. Having to downshift to get going after the car upshifts going around a corner or whatever is the only issue I have with an automatic car. Like everything else it's a tradeoff between comfort/performance.

I'm definatley going to give it a try for a few days and see how I like it, I figure worse case it'll make the Wife even less inclined to drive the car then she already is!

Now you got the idea. It keeps the car up on it's toes sort of speak all the time. And yes...it keeps my wifey from wanting to drive the stang anywhere.

Are you waiting for an email from Ryan? Give him a shout directly at 888.226.9764. It takes a day or two to communicate over email, but he can knock a tune update out for you in under 10 minutes if you give him a call Monday-Friday 9AM-5:30PM EST.
