Tuner question

Is there a correct way to re-tune the Mustang?

ie) I have Doug's 93 Race Tune, but he has sent me another one to try and I want to re-flash it. Is there a proper way to do this, without screwing anything up.

There might be a easier way, but I return the car to factory tune, loaded the new to on my tuner and then download the new tune to the car. But I'm sure there are others on this forum who know better than I.

That's the same thing I do. I return to stock tune and then put in the new tune. It's probably ****, but thats what I do.

If you're using a DiabloSport Predator tuner, then it's not necessary to return the car's ECU back to the stock tune, but you do have to D/L a copy of the stock tune(factory back-up) from the tuner to your PC, and then compare its size to the size of the new custom tune before you can upload the new tune to your tuner. (NOTE: I don't know if the same applies to an SCT tuner.)
Also, if the 93 Race tune was supplied with your tuner, then it may get deleted when you upload the new tune to the tuner. If that happens, then Doug will probably email you a copy for free.

Here are instructions on how to upload the new tune from your PC to a DiabloSport Predator tuner. (NOTE: D/L DSDownloader to your PC from the DiabloSport site before proceeding with the following):

(A) Saving original backup to PC:
1. With the computer turned off, connect the Predator to the COM 1 serial port(lower port) on the back of the computer.
2. Turn on the computer, go into BIOS, enable both serial ports, and save the change.
3. Set the COM 1 port's baud rate to 115,200 in Device Manager.
4. Open DSDownloader.
5. You will get a message box saying 'Not Registered'. Click 'OK'.
6. Select COM 1 in DSDownloader, and set its baud rate to 115,200.
7. Connect the Predator to its power adapter, and set its baud rate to 115,200.
8. Once the Predator is on the main screen, press ‘Get Tune File From Predator’ on DSDownloader.
9. A copy of the original backup file will automatically be extracted from the Predator.
10. Once the file has been uploaded, the DSDownloader will ask if you would like to save it in the .ori file directory. Choose 'No', and direct it to save the file to a location so that you can find it easily.
11. Your original backup file is now saved to your PC.

(B) Sending a custom tune to the Predator:
8. Once the Predator is on the main screen, press 'Send Tune File To Predator' button.
9. You will get a new window asking you to select the file for download.
10. Browse through the computer to find where you saved the custom tune, click it once, then press 'Open'.
11. If this is the first time you are sending a tune to the Predator, you will get a new window saying a 'Valid Base File Could Not Be Found'. Click 'Yes'.
12. Direct the DSDownloader to where the original backup file is saved, highlight it, and press 'Open'.
13. The DSDownloader will automatically compare these files to determine if they are the same size, and of the same calibration.
14. Once it determines the files are OK, it will download the custom tune file to the Predator. This will all happen very fast, usually in under 10 seconds.
15. DSDownloader will tell you that the download was successful, and the Predator will say 'Import OK'.
16. Disable both serial ports in BIOS, save the change, turn off the computer, disconnect the Predator, and install the custom tune into the car's ECU.

If you're referring to DSDownloader, then either use a different computer running Windows XP, or try the suggestions in this link:
