TUNE UPDATE FOR 4.10 GEARS

CRAAPPPP, have shop time setup tomorrow to get my gears put in and just now remembered that I didn't get ahold of CR @ AM to have him adjust the tune..

Hopefully Chris reads this, the PM or the email I sent him (lol)...

If not, can I adjust via my tuner??? whats the consequence if not??

I would imagine the only thing you'd suffer is a bad speedo and mileage until the tune is updated. Take that with some salt, though...

Only thing is the speedo being wrong. Nothing else. Don't worry about it.

If you have an X3 with a custom tune you should be able to adjust the gear ratio and re-load the tune( it should say adjust options). I know I can do it with my SCT X3 with custom tunes loaded.

+1, you can make this adjustment with your XCal2/X3 from the custom settings menu. HOWEVER, I'd still recommend getting a specific tune for the 4.10s, these auto's need some additional adjustments for driveability reasons. You should take it easy on your gears the first few heat cycles anyway, so you have time to wait a couple days for a tune before really getting on it.

Install complete. WOW what a difference.

Still need a tune for better adjustments but I did change the ratio via tuner. Here are a few numbers..

3rd gear/30mph/2500rpms
5th gear/55mph/2000rpms
5th gear/70mph/2500rpms

There is nothing Chris needs to do for the gears. The change is made via the handheld device.

He drives an auto, additional changes are required. I'm speaking from experience here, without changes the performance of the transmission will be less then desirable. It's not a matter of making a speedometer adjustment and calling it a day like with a manual car. The first thing he will notice is he will be in O/D by the time he's going 35mph on light acceleration and it gets even more funky from there.

These autos are complicated machines, they shift based on pedal location + torque management + ETC counts + line pressure + commanded shift point + actual shift point + trans input speed + trans output speed + trans line pressure / trans max allowed pressure + converter lock / unlock points. You just can't set the gear ratio to 4.10 to correct the speedometer and expect all those other settings will be optimized for a gear change as large as 3.31 to 4.10.

Hey Tim,
Not sure of all the tune tweeks you are speaking for but I know both mine and Colby's trans tunes are very similiar. Both of ours shifts into 2nd and 3rd gears @3000 rpm not before. My OD is set at 55 and I think Colby's is 60. Mine will drop into 4th on decel at 50. Brenspeed has all torque managment turned off and pressures turned up on my tune. If there are further adjustments after changing gears I would like to know what it is. Because I am also looking into changing gears. I want to know if going to 4:10's in these auto's makes 1st and 2nd almost disappear because they are so short in duration.
Scott

+1... Autos different than manuals... shift points, timing, etc., will have to be adjusted on autos. Manuals... not a problem. I'd difinitely contact your tuner.

Scott.. 1st and 2nd are still useable for sure. Granted I have 20's which might make it taller but after adjusting for them I'd think it would be close.

The shift points will need to be adjusted but its driveable the way it is. Things are a bit off but highway speed is no prob at all. As i mentioned, 70 mph is at 2500 rpms and 55 was only at 2k.

3rd gear feel like 2nd with stock gears, but again 1st is still there.

Didn't realize it was an Auto, just figured it was a manual. Thanks for the schooling on automatics and tuning though...
