Hi all, just wondering if it is normal for the Tremec five speed to be a little noisey?

What's the answer? I have noticed alot of noise during initial start, and then a whine in 1st and 2nd. The car overall seems to be geared toward making noise. I had a 89 gt 5.0 and it reminds me of that.

I searched transmission noise and found several answers. From what I read it appears to be normal.

For the most part it's normal, but I sure don't like it. The service manager at my Dealership says that the V6's are just as noisey too.

 

Me likes gear noise! Just as long as it's not from the rear.

Haven't had any noticable noise.

 

My 89 was noisy too but not as bad as this one. I put Redline synthetic in the gearbox and it quieted it up, plus it made the shifts "smooth as silk". Has anybody put synthetic in the gearbox or rearend on their 05 yet? I got 137,000 trouble free miles out of my 89 and it was still going strong when I traded it in 96.

The rearend already has 75-140 synthetic in it. I noticed a "synth" sticker on the rearend while I was crawling around there a few days ago.

 

Wayne - you are correct - I belive Ford uses this synth in all of their "limited slip" diffs - don't forget the friction modifier too! I recently changed out the rear diff oil for my '98 all wheel drive Explorer and it used the same as well.
