Traction Control Auto Off Mod
Here's a question for the expert electric guys.. I'd like to do this as well as some other little things like wiring my cruise control button for line lock, would it be a problem to tap off the radio on for a few things? Obviously you shouldn't be overloading it but how much power do these little mods make? I have no idea what's right or wrong so enlighten me or just tell me if it'll work.
Dez. The circuit works signaling the computer to switch TC on and off with a ground signal. I don't think you want to be putting 12 V on the TCS wire. Why don't you lift and tape the power wire until I get back home, and I'm not doing this on my phone.
Edit: Ok, just played with a Mustang out here.
TC is cycled during the start sequence by the computer. That could be the on off you're seeing durning start.
1) turn your radio on and start your car. Did the radio stop playing durning start?
Yes, than that wire is still good. No, check fuse.
2) if the above worked. Verify you get 12v to the relay wire during start. Hook a meter to the power wire. See if you get 12v when cranking and no voltage before and after.
We can go on from here.

2: i'll have to check later.
Ok, finally got back behind my radio for this. I have a pioneer 4200dvd with a relay to bypass brake. So I simply took the brake wire off the relay and put the tcs wire instead. That relay pulls power from the remote wire going to my amp. Same result. I skipped the splice connector and went good old twisted wire and black tape with the power wire from relay to where my wire from radio and wiring harness adapter meet. Same result. And none of the ways I do this, except taking the tcs wire off of a relay, will let me hit the button to turn tcs on or off.
The red power wire coming out of my radio does have 12 before and after start. (I just accidently touched the power to the ground and it blew the fuse. And I'm hooked into the red wire, not the Always power yellow wire.) I had the key on "on" at that time and it had power.
Edit: just went to change the fuse, and fuse 20 was not the one blown. it was fuse 6: Accessory Delay Feeds.

The wires MUST come and go exactly were the mod says.
Being behind the radio connectors it should make no difference what radio you have installed. "good old twist and tape" has no place in a modern vehicle. It is very likely that that practice will bite you in the *** some time down the road. It's ok for some quick troubleshooting but that's all.
DO NOT put 12v on the TCS wire.
Ok, that said.
1) Disconnect the wire you spliced into the TCS (White/Pink) wire from the relay.
Turn the ignition key to accessory position. Let the TC cycle off then on by the computer.
Momentarily touch the lead you spliced in from the TCS wire (White/Pink) to ground.
Does the TCS system turn on and off?
a) Yes, Go to step 2
b) No, push the TCS on off button does the TCS system turn on and off.
aa) Yes, your connection to the TCS (White/Pink) is wrong or a bad splice.
bb) No, you either didn't reconnect the switch, or you cooked something. (very bad)
2) Buy a mini add a fuse.

add it to passanger side foot well smart junction box. Fuse 20

Wire the add a fuse to the coil side of your relay. per diagram. The add a fuse wire goes right to the relay coil.

Wire the TCS wire (White/Pink) to the contact side of relay.
Ground the other two leads.
1) Start your car. Does the mod work?
a) Yes, much rejoicing! button it up.
b) No, Step 3
3) Try again with the radio on. Did the radio stop during startup?
a) Yes, relay is broke or wired wrong or one of the add a fuse fuses is blown.
b) No, check both your add a fuse fuses.

i had the relay wired up exactly as you had shown, and i took it out after i blew the fuse. but anyways, i figured the add a fuse would be the next thing to try. but im in the process of moving to the house me and my Fiancee bought and dont have much free time to play with this right now.
thanks for the assistance though,
for the record, all of my wires i've done behind the radio are soldered.

Just did this mod cause I was tired of constantly reaching over and punching the traction button. Took about an hour. I used the #20 fuse with a fuse tap for power. Works great. Thanks to the fellows who showed us all how to do it. GA
Overdrive OFF Automatically
Wouldn't this same mod work for turning O/D off automatically?
I am thinking of really old schooling mine and putting a 9" Ford Currie setup in the rear with a 3.00 ratio and would love to just simply have OD automatically turned off when I start the car.
Then I could use the OD on a long freeway trip and with the 9" rear, I just swap out the 3rd member for a lower geared one and go racing.
Thx,
Mike

As long as the O/D switch is momentary like the T/C switch it seems to me it should. I just saw Steved post in another thread so he'll probably see this and respond ...
+1 , this is one of the best and cheapest mods I've done , thanks Steved ... It's a lot easier to have to remember to turn it on when it rains than to have to remember to turn it off before you get on it ...
2 weeks after doing this mod I love it !!!
I didn't use the "Add a fuse" method because I didn't like how it fit inside that fuse cover and the fact that you couldn't replace the cover after. I used the clutch switch power instead, its easy to locate and don't have to pull the radio out.

Did you find another access to the wire without pulling the dash apart like your were trying. Thanks

The circuit above is getting a 12V signal that the OD off/on button pulses to the transmission controller. So it is different from the traction control.
I tried using a modified version of the circuit, but it won't work. By modified I mean putting the 12V hot circuit on terminal 30 (light blue with yellow stripe (LB-YL) and then terminal 87 on the tan wire with a white stripe (TN-WH) shown in 224 above, but it will not latch the signal when I start the car.
If I put a manual toggle switch across the LB-YL and TN-WH wires (wired it in parallel) and with that switch ON it will keep OD in the off position. It draws 5 milliamps so hopefully that won't cause any issues.
To get back to normal operation of the button switch, just turn the toggle switch to OFF.
I went ahead while I had it all torn apart and installed the traction control off mod, and that worked perfectly.
HTH and thanks.
Mike

i have a quick question's on the mini add a fuse did you use two 10 fuse on it? also i see in the fuse 20 pic that there are two fuses circled which one is the better selection top on or bottom? i would appreciate the help thanks in advance.
