I installed my D spec's and realized I didn't see anything about the bump stops so they are not installed. Car rides fine but I don't know if I need them on or not. Pic on the box doesn't have bump stops. Can someone help...I will be taking things apart on the car in a few hours and would like to know if I need to add the factory bump stops on to the new shocks??

 

While I can't answer your question, I would definitely like to know how you like them over the factory stuff. I have the Eibach Pro Kit and it's always seemed a little bumpy, almost like you're riding on the springs only.

As long as you don't bottom out, you'll never know they're not installed. I reused them because I do drive on the streets and you know how bad they can be in places.

 

Just curious, I got my D-specs in the mail today and what settings is everyone going for. I have gone with BMR springs with the 1.5 front and 2.0 rear drops.I am hoping to get rid of the constant jiggle of all the small road imperfections. Am I asking to much?

 

My roads are bumpy...so your saying they are supposed to be on there?

I like them with the pro-kit...I started with 5 front and back and then went to 3 front and back and now im on 5 in the back and 4 in the front. You just have to try it out and see what you like.

 

how hard is it to adjust them once they are installed? do you have to remove the tires?

 

Sounds like they may be a good option. Where is everyone purchasing them? Maximum Motorsports is 649 is there better pricing somewhere else?

You may be OK without the stops, but if you ever hit a big enough bump and your springs bind, you would be in for quite a jolt.

 

Okay guys, I think I got the best price possible, $509 shipped to my door. I'll be charging $10 dollars for the information on where to get them at this price. I just called them up and ordered directly, nice guys.

 

They are not hard to adjust...they adjust from the top of the shock so under the hood and in the trunk under the mat. I got mine from mustangsupension.com. They price match and are great to deal with!!! I got my eiback springs and sways from there also.

Well I went ahead and ordered a set along with the Eibach sway bars. Looks like we'll have the same suspension combo [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumb.gif[/img] Did the sway bars change the cars handling alot? To me the car wants to understeer now along with a little to much body roll for me.

What else did you do to the car? If just the Tokico's, unless you really have them firmed up on one end more than the other, over steer / understeer characteristics should be generally the same. You might notice a transient tendency (as the car starts to turn), but ones its settled into the corner should not be much difference.

 

I already have the Eibach Pro kit springs. I just ordered their sway bar kit along with the D-specs. I'm hoping the sway bars will help cure the understeer. I got the D-specs to help cure the ride quality. To me the car feels like it rides on the springs without much strut/shock help.

Well the bigger bars will have an effect on cornering for sure, but not ride, except for the single bump situuation. Would be interesting to know the front and rear bar size compared to the stock. The bar stifness will go up by the ration of the new/old bar diameters raised to the 4th. What kind of front suspension settings are you at and did yo install the adjustable panhard bar to correct rear axle offset?

I have the Tokico's as well. Was too cold this weekend to mess with them (install). I have taken some video of the stock set up handing some hard bumps. The GT feels very firm, but I think its deceptive why. Looking at the video, the rear shocks look to be soft on bounce and stiff on rebound. Too much rebound resistance gives a false sensation of stiffness and slows down the bounce recovery which can have a negative effect on handling, particularly in cornering when the rear starts to skate over the bumps. Plan more videos as I try to tune the Tokico's.

 

I do have a adjustable Panhard bar, however the D specs and sway bars have not made it yet. I just ordered them Saturday [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/04.gif[/img] I agree on the weather too, just plain nasty.

I actualy dont have the sways on just yet...it was to cold for me too this weekend! I also had to work longer than planed. I would think the sways will do what I want...stop some body roll. I have had sways on other cars and they made a big difference. The d specs help with the ride and can also help under and over steer by adjusting the front and backs differently. I think once the sways are on the GT will handel awesome...it already MUCH better than stock.

 

Well one thing to recognize when lowering this car and generally any with a McPhearson strut ... the roll center of the front drops relative to the vehicle CG and therefore the front roll couple increases, which means more roll.

regarding your bump stop query. I see you have a lowing kit as well. It would be wise to have some bump stop on the struts, even if your shorten them by half to get a little extra bounce travel back. If you hit a few hard bumps you are at risk if damaging the shock as it slams into a hard stop.

 

Hi NOLAGT,

You are supposed to use the supplied new bumpstops to replace the stock bumpstop/covers. The new supplied stops are shorter and have a rubber bumper to protect the strut housing. You should use these, NOT the stock bumpstops.

What stops might those be ... none in my box of shocks and struts for Tokico i just received?
