Every tire manufacturer has a rim fitment chart. As long as your rim size is in the given range you're good. Now there are some folks out there who will fit any tire on any rim and think it's OK but it usually looks stupid and is detrimental to performance. Stick to what the tire manufacturer suggests.

I run 305/45/18's on my car.

Those are pretty decent tires. I ran them along with the triple 5R's and MT's. They are right in the middle as far as performance. They don't last for **** though, but either do the MT's.

How wide are the wheels?

I have 9.5"-wide wheels and I'm running 305/40/18's right now, Nitto NT555R:

I had 18x10 on the car for a short while, with the same tires on them, and they fit even better:

Those pics are with ProKit springs. I ride on Cobra Jet RA springs now which is a little taller in the rear and a little shorter in the front.

I'm thinking those are just a tad wide for a 9.5" rim. It might be better if you had a bit more sidewall height. Maybe try the 45 series next go around. The bulge will be less noticeable.
