I would like to get some better tires than stock (possibly getting 410 gears soon), but I don't want to get new rims. I would like wider tires like 255's but from what I can find it looks like I basically have 1 option the KDWS. I would like to get nittos, but looks like they don't have anything that would fit correct on the stock rims. It looks like everyone makes the right tires for 18" but nothing for the 17"s. I am not looking for a drag radial, just better than stock. My car is a summer car only (unless my other one breaks down, LOL). Anyone have any suggestions?

The Nitto 450 255/50 and 275/50 tires will work on a 17x8 wheel according to Nitto's website: http://www.nittotire.com/popup_450_sizes.asp and http://www.nittotire.com/tires_450.asp

But, I have seen the 275s on an 8" wheel and they looked quite bulged on the sidewalls.

bridgestone potenza 750, and a firestone (can't remember model) have a 255/50/17.

you are right, it's hard to find a 27inch diameter tire at the moment.

Does it really matter that the 450's are not Z rated? I know V rating is stil faster than I probably will be going, but I'm not an expert with the speed ratings myself

stock wheels are W rated, 168mph. V is 149. how often do you expect to go faster?

Get the Nitto NT450 extreme 255/50. I love mine and they still hook up very well with the 4:10's.

I don't expect to be breaking 149 anytime soon, LOL. But is that the only downside to lower rated tires? 149 is the highest speed, so whats it really meant for? If I'm going to the track occasionally just for fun is there any disadvantages of the lower rating? or should I play it safe and get the KDWS's that are Z rated. I know BFG is a decent tire just hear alot of raving about Nitto recently.

yep. P235/55ZR17 98W M+S
manufacturers often put ZR on tires that are rated beyond 149mph. The W indicates sustained speeds of 168. a Y would indicate 180something

Hey Rich,

I've got Fuzion 255/50's with virtually the same car + performance mods as you and I go nowhere but sideways in first gear. Are you really able hook in 1st? When you rip 2nd gear, does your life flash before your eyes? Mine often does! I need to make a change and I'm told that the Nitto's are a much softer compound. I would like to stay with 255/50's but there are many out there. Most 255's are 45 series which will fill even less of the wheel wells.

Any other sticky 255/50's out there? My car is not daily driven and I don't mind sacrificing wet weather traction. Just....want.....traction.........

Adam, I don't drag race my car and when I am showing someone how my car performs I usually start from a rolling start. When I hit second they chirp pretty good but don't really break traction to an extreme. When these tires wear out I will get another set of the same.

Well the tire says 235/55ZR17 98 W M+S as in the photo
So I guess they are just W rated.
Is there any harm in downgrading to V? its a 19mph top end differnece.
Will it effect anything at lower speeds?

Dan if you are going to put 4:10 gears in your car it won't go 140 anymore so don't worry about the rating of 150 mph +
