Exclamation Time For New Tires - Suggestions, Anyone?

Well, the time has come for new tires. I'm looking for high performance oriented tires that will stand up to a few trips to the track/dragstrip and hard driving. I heard BF Goodrich's g-Force T/A KDW was a good tire, but I thought I'd ask everyone here what the best tires are for my needs before I came to a decision.

Again, I'm looking for a tire that can withstand a few trips to the track/dragstrip. Any suggestions/price quotes are appreciated. Thanks, guys!

Are you concerned about tire wear? As in, do you daily drive this car? Or is it a weekend warrior?

Well, it is a daily driver, but it's really not driven that much - only about 4 miles to work. So give me your weekend warrior suggestions.

I would suggest some Nitto 555's. They can be found from about $175-$200 if you look around.

I knew you'd make that recommendation

I love my Michelin's Pilot Sport A/S. Mine are all-seasons, but they also make the same tire without the all-season tread.

But, I've also had NO issues with Bridgestone, and I have used them for MANY cars.

Note: availability will depend on the tire size for a lot of the aforementioned tires.

I like Nitto 555's myself. Great everyday tire, good traction, cheap, good in the wet, look good, very quite on the highway. Not the newest and the best, but pretty good all around. I get mine w/ free shipping and no tax from Discount Tire Direct.

The KD's look cool and that's about it. They are one of the worst tires I've ever driven on. Every time I take a curve they feel like they're going to break loose. They spin up super easy and I just have a stock motor. When it's wet out, forgetta bout it. It's like driving on plastic tires.

I've got the kdw's and they have been great tires in rain and dry. They look good and once warmed up are great, they do feel slick until you get them warmed up a bit. The only thing that will keep me from buying them again is the road noise. They are loud, the tire roar on the freeway drowns out my loud mouths!

I've read reviews where people have complained about wet traction, I have not had any problem with them and actually they feel far more stable and hydroplane less than the stockers.

Do you have KDWS's or KDW's? It makes all the difference in the world. I have KDW's and other than than the road noise these are some really great tires. They grip quite well rain or shine. They even did alot better than I expected when it iced over out here. In the snow they were a little scary though.

The KDWS's (all season) that came on my car were rather squirrely which is why I ask.

Dunlop SP Sport 9000.....Best tire i have ever put on any car great sticky traction and good wear
I have tried all the other tire brands and to me nothing compares to Dunlop....These can be a bit pricey but they have other great tires for less

For treadwear, bite, and stability mixed with little to no roadnoise, great wet traction... check out the Hankook Ventus Z212. They're great tires, and I've used them 3 times now since. I sell the hell out of them, too. They're priced great for the quality you recieve. Never thought of even checking into Hankook's, but I'm glad I did!

After much research:

The BFG KD'S are the fastest on the road course by about .75 sec per lap.

The Kumho MX's are the second fastest tire and last about 30% longer and cost about 30 % less.

The KD's and the MX's are the two best street tires on the market.

They both suck at the drag strip. You will need drag radials there.

If you would consider a DOT race tire then i would go with the Toyo RA1's, They work great and are DOT approved so you cant get a ticket for them. They would be a way agressive street tire. i just wouldnt get caught in a downpour on the highway.

I have about 4/32 nds left on my MX's from last season and I think I'm
going to try the RA1's when the MX's wear out.

I will have to switch from a 275/40/18 in the Mx's to a 285/35/18 in the RA1's because thats the size size that Toyo builds. My only concern is that the DOT wear rating on the Toyos is only 30!! Ouch! I dont know if they will pass the wifes rule that a set of tires needs to last me one season. The MX's did with ease. More later in a differant thread.

+1, obviously I dont need tires for the 07 yet, but I went through 3 sets of Pilot Sport A/S 255/45R17's on my 02, I'd luv to try a set of PS2's, but it still snows every so often here is south Va. When the KDWS' wear out I'm gonna go with a set of 255/45R18's for the 07
