I want to get SLP Loudmoths, but may go with the Flowmaster American Thunder, because I don't want to get tickets for the volume.
How much louder are the SLPs
is there much drone ??
Has anyone gotten tickets for the volume ?

Look at it this way. Loudmouths are nothing more than a fancy straightpipe, therefore they will be loud and yes, there will be drone.

fixed the header for ya

So my best bet will be the Flowmaster American Thunder, I have read that the drone is limited to none as they were designed for the Mustang GT after the car was already on the market.
Will I get tha same deep "throaty" sound I am looking for ?

The loudmouths are not terrbly loud with the stock H pipe on the car. They will fail inspection in some states though since they are not a true muffler. I had a customer that had that problem. SLP sent him a letter saying that it was considered a muffler and they let it pass but it was a PITA

I put them on mine and I don't think they are too loud. Under WOT is a different story though As for drone, I havn't noticed any yet. I would highly recommend them

Go HERE and download the Flowmaster Muffler Install Write-Up. It details how to install the Flowmasters and has a couple links to comparison videos between Stock & Flowmaster tones.

Oh there is drone w/ the Flows.
On a stock manual GT, 3.55 gears (stock) there is ALWAYS drone in 4th and 5th when under load (accelerating) between ~1600 and ~2100 RPM.

EVERY time.

But if you don't mind it, they sound good, deep and throaty. Stay above 2,000 rpm in 4th and 5th (more fun anyway) and you don't get into the "drone zone". They even give you a little gurgle when decelerating in gear, not like glass packs or anything, but some.

get the SLP, they arent THAT loud unless you get on it. They are deep and throaty and sound sick as heck with the stock H pipe.

SLP sound real nice, I have no drone, and I don't wake up the whole neighborhood when I leave in the morning... well, that is if I don't want to wake them up!

They idle deeper than stock, but at WOT, it's insanity, you'll love them from the get go!

I love mine. From inside the car them seem pretty quiet unless I get on it. I have had them on almost a year and I haven't had any complaints about them being too loud.

I got the SLP Loudmouth's and they are great. At Idle and "Casual" driving they sound very nice and not to crazy, but drop the hammer to WOT and HOLY COW do they wake up, especially if you go through tunnel's or under an overpass. As for ticket's, I've been pulled over once so for and was let of with a warning because Dad's a cop , but the nice officer said they sounded really good. Jusk ask MAVERICKMLFD371 and he can vouch for the sound!

I can't hear mine over the many Harley Davidson's running around here with strait pipes. Also most of the import fart cans are much louder. I have not been ticketed yet. There was a motorcycle cop in a parking garage when I went to my car I was kinda hoping he'd be gone before I had to start her up. He was hanging around too long so I fired up anyway, set off a few alarms, he looked over but did nothing.

They sound really incredible and they are loud, but it's not like your going to be the loudest thing on the road.

I disagree...... having heard them both in person, with the stock midpipe, the SLP has more tone and attitude. It is vastly superior, hands down.

Have you thought about Magnapacks? They are louder than 'Flows, but not as loud as Loudmouths

The gurgle sound used to be due to the reduction in backpressure in the valvetrain on old cars and especially motorcycles after putting glasspacks on them. I dont remember if it was bad on the valves or not but I don't think it was a good thing. Anybody know for sure about this? I am about to buy the Flowmasters and am curious about it too.

I dont think its bad for modern motors...... I have a tiny glasspack sort of muffler on my bike too and its been there for 2 years with no problems. I dont think it hurts anything as long as its not running too lean.

That's your prerogative.

One more advantage of 'packs over 'flows: the beautiful 4" rolled tips. They look sweet!
