Throtle Body Spacers

I have seen a Helix Throttle Body Spacer in a Moss catalog claiming up to 22 HP gain and 4 mpg. Does anyone have any experience with these and how tough is the install. I have read that these spacers are not worth installing on some vehicles.

I got mine from Steeda. You don't really feel a gain of '10' hp, but for some 90 bucks, why not.

Cannot comment on the Moss thing, but the Steeda product is great!

They're useless, the only thing you might gain is an annoying *** whistling sound coming from the intake. Don't waste your money on one.

The only engines that do work on are carburated or throttle body injection engines.

22hp from a TB spacer, give me a ****in break...

Yeah, but this comment is also BS.

I don't have any strange whistling sound coming from the throttle body. Maybe you should go and check your engine.

They work good on V6s but not on the GTs a waist of money. You can send that money to me if you don't want it....

I got my steeda TBS for free with my CAI. I can't claim that it offers any real HP gains (I remember reading someone dyno'ing it at 2HP). However, it helps fuel economy (which is pretty useless for me over here). Also on my auto I feel that it improves the throttle lag a tad. Its not a complete paper weight as some are claiming, but its not gonna yield performance improvements. Also, my Steeda TBS whistles. I actually love the sound.

Hey Ralph, I think his comment was directed to the hp gains, which IS false! There is no way to get 22hp from a TBS.

22hp is a joke, I concur. In most cases between 5 to 10 max.

Even a 5 to 10 HP gain, is a joke. In most cases you'll see 2, maybe 3HP max, if your lucky.

Did they test one with their ported heads?

They WILL NOT give you a tangible performance increase. They WILL give you better mileage. They WILL reduce throttle lag a tiny bit. They WILL/MIGHT give you a badass whistle sound at the intake.

Given how cheap they are, and are installed in 10 mins by a monkey, and taking the price of gas into account, I think they are a good buy. You will probably break even due to savings on gas within 6 months.

As I mentioned before I got it for free, and gas where I live is cheaper than air, but for those of you not living atop an oil well, I really think it’s the way to go.

Some of us DO live atop oil wells, but we have pain-in-the-butt politicians who block efforts to access the oil. I've considered a TBS just because they're a cheap mod w/ the potential for some gain and I figure what do I have to lose? It wouldn't be the first time I've wasted money on this car. I was watching an episode of HorsepowerTV on Spike and they tested a TBS w/ before and after dyno runs and did see a gain from it. Was that fake, or was the gain because of the advertising dollars spent by the TBS manufacturer?

I'm purchasing a Granatelli Throttle Body and the guy selling it to me told me that the spacer was tested/tuned by Livernois and showed gains of 12 RWHP.
