before i installed the shifter i had no issues with the car or engine, but after whenever i accelerate over 2500 rpm's i get sorta like a knocking sound. there is no vibration in the shifter at all so i sorta thought that it wasnt it but its the only thing i changed. anyone else experience anything like this? is it just transmission noise?

I had a knocking sound when accelerating. I tightened the big bolt that holds the shift levers together and the noise went away. I still here a little knocking every once in a while. Did yours have DynaMat installed?

no dynamat. i thought i tightened that bolt as much as i could. could it be the bolt that links the plate to the tranny? but then again there is no vibration. logically it would seem if there were a problem with the shifter there would be some vibration. it has less vibration now than the stock shifter did. im totally confused. it soundsl ike its coming from the engine but i am so totally retarded when trying to pinpoint sounds i may be wrong on that.

You might try checking the bolts that hold the plate part of the shifter to the under side of the car. There are rubber bushing that help reduce vibrations. Maybe they are too compressed.

great i love the shifts very firm and tight, short throw and i love how it just clicks into gears but im just worried about the knocking sound. its weird that it only happens over 2500rpms and immediately goes away when i release the gas pedal.

Just a heads up guys. The extending nut that screws onto the pin of the connector arm fell out on my car. I overnighted a replacement from B&M, and along with it came new instructions. They now say you should put locktite on it and torque it to 15 pounds which I did.

Thanks for the info. I was wondering how much it needed. Mine started backing out the first time and I got vibration so I tightened it up more the last time and so far no trouble.

Jon

P.S. I absolutely love the B&M's quick shifts. It's awesome.

ok. i tightened the bolts and used locktite on them and everything. now when i shift it takes a lot more effort to get it into gear. also the noise doesnt come into play until about 2800rpms now. it takes a little longer. any ideas?

You must have tightened the bolt under the shifter a little too much. Doing so will make shifting much more difficult. I need to get under my car again to put some loctite on that bolt before mine falls out. I can tell it's loose :-(.

From my experience with that shifter the noise you are hearing is the shifter base plate rubbing against the studs in the floor pan. This typically occurs under acceleration or breaking when the tranny moves around. Since there is no room for the shifter to move forward or backward with the tranny like with the stock or Hurst setup.

In my opinion, and not to get you upset about your new purchase, that shifter design is garbage. I sold mine after a couple of weeks. The isolated stick is smooth, but it too makes a ton of noise under hard acceleration because of the metal to metal contact with the linkage (no bushings).

B&M makes some great products, but this one is horrible.

Mine was noisy initially, but quieted down after about 1,000 miles.
