Those with the Steeda Triax
Have you experienced the leather shift boot wearing out when shifted into second? I already had it replaced once and just 2-3 days later I am noticing it start to rub and wear again. Is this a problem for all Triaxes or does anyone else have this problem with any other shifter, including the stock one? Is there a fix?

I have the Tri-Ax and have had it installed for right around a year also. No wear on mine at all. I have the lever installed in the lower position as well in case that information helps you at all. What is it rubbing on exactly? Is it the lever, or the bolts, or ???

**** so I dont know what is going on with mine then I too have mine in the lower position, it is rubbing about a half inch down on the stick from where the leather starts just below the shift **** and again on the inside edge just below the lip of the shift boot in the second position, I can take a pic and post it tomorrow,
at first I thought it was the boot itself it seemed to have a rough fold in it at that spot but the new one is already wearing as well.
another question for you how much lateral play do you guys have with the stick when its in gear or neutral?

I have a Tri-ax as well. I just went out and looked at mine tring to figure out what your problem is. Do you have the shift lever bolted to the driver or passenger side of the shifter? It should be on the passenger side. That is the only way that I could think of that it could rub on the side of the boot.

I had my boot turned around backwards and it wouldn't even allow the frame of it to stay on the console... it kept popping up... then i realized it was turned around... turned around and no problems yet...
the only part i rubbing i notice is the big rubber boot that goes in the hole going to the ground underneath... it's getting pinched occasionallly when i shift into second.. and reverse... but i imagine it will wear in...

If when you look at it, the hole seems to be more toward the front of the shift boot/bezel, then pop it off the console and rotate it so the hole is more toward the back and put the bezel back down on the console.
I'll see if I can take a pic or perhaps someone can chime in with one before i go home tonight, take a picture and send it to you.
(if any of this makes sense)

Here is a picture with my shift boot pulled up. The shifter lever that the shift **** is screwed onto is bolted to the right side of the shifter. Do you understand? I know know the correct words to describe the shifter parts so let me know if you don't get what I'm saying.

i think we are confused about which boot we're talking about..
the one under the console that you don't normally see or
the one that is on top of the console attached to the shift ****?
(to me a shift boot is the boot on top of the console attached to the ****)

I am referring to the leather one, and I lifted it up and checked it out, it everything seems to be put together correctly. The shift **** part is bolted to the right side of the shifter lever and its in its lowest position and everything is flush and fine. So I dont know what the problem is, one thing I did notice is though is that it must be rubbing harder than I thought because when I lift off the leather boot the plastic edge in the same spot as the wearing is worn thin as well.

ok so here are the pics....
first the damage, now this is a new boot (now a couple of weeks old) so the wear marks arent as bad as the first one but they have gotten bad quickly....
Notice how the shifter actually goes all the way over and touches the edge, thats what happens when shifting into second, it doesnt have to go all the way over to shift, but when shifting into second the way the leather sits it rubs as it passes that point and wears out, but it does need to be pretty darn close (almost touching anyways) to shift down, whats odd is that the leather doesnt rub going up at the same distance from the edge.
Pics with the shift boot up....
whats odd is that the part of the shifter that touches the edge of the opening is above the shift lever that attaches to the tranny so its going a lot further over to the left then I thought.
and one last one to show how hard it is actually rubbing, its grinding into the plastic of the center console...

I don't see an installation problem from the top. There must be something wrong with the way it was mounted. I would really need to get under your car and have a look. You should probably have the installer fix it. There are a couple different things that could possibly cause that.

There are 2 different sized brass bushings at the bottom of the shifter where it attaches to the transmission linkage. These could have been reversed when installing. I have the Pro 5.0 and I even mounted the shifter arm on the drivers side to bring it closer to me and it still doesn't rub like yours.
