Larry I took this picture at the Fab Fords show. The owner told me he angled the bar to fit through his Supercharger. It looked like a tight fit to me, he said it doesn't hit anyting

 

You're right in one way as far as drive performance you probably won't notice a thing more eye candy. But It does keep stress lower from engine torque. Especially if your a lead foot racer. The best strut braces are like these below:
