Chris (subzero), Mike (Mustang Mike 05), how loud are the Vortech superchargers? I heard an R-Trim (or was it Q-Trim?) on a Foxbody recently and it sounded nasty at idle. I was wondering if the S-Trims were a bit quieter on our cars.

I've heard a few people say that they would never run a non cooled supercharger...what are yall's thoughts on this? The non cooled Vortech kit has price tag that is just right for me...

Chris, you recently upgraded your setup to include the aftercooler, right? Is it worth the extra grand? I'm not so much concerned with extra power as I am with "safety."

Lastly Mike, did you install it yourself? How hard was it? The only auto mechanic experience I have is installing a CAI and throttle body spacer. I'm a pretty smart guy, and am good at figuring things out, but would I be shooting myself in the foot by trying to install the non cooled kit myself?

Thanks for the info/advice...and btw, NICE cars...I'm green with envy right now.

Its a pretty intense install. I didnt do it myself- but our shop did two of them as they were SEMA project vehicles. I dont have much time on them yet. ( one is inner cooled one isnt) Im really anxious to get them both down the 1/4 mile to see what the diffrence is between the two. I have Basanni exhaust on them which is somewhat loud so I dont know if you really get to hear the super charger as much but it sounds great when you get on it. The green one is going for a photo shoot this wee. After that, I plan on getting it out for some runs and Ill have a better feel for what its really all about.

the vortech kit is pretty quiet.Much quieter than others I have heard, especially the procharger. The NON-I/c kit seems to be quieter than the intercooled one (since I have had both).I am not really sure why that is,but either way they are quiet overall. As far as I am concerned, the non i/c kit is very safe and I would not hesitate to recommend it.A/f ratio's etc. were all good with the standard kit and it has plenty of get up and go!..The I/c kit gives me about an extra 2lb of boost from what I have seen on the guage and definately seems to have more oomph on the bottom end.Dyno increase from the i/c upgrade showed an additional 31hp over the standard kit. But, if $$ is a concern get the standard system and you can always upgrade like I did should you desire down the road.

The old R-Trim blowers were loud. They had straight cut gears as do all of our V-1 blowers. The new V-2 blowers are much quieter. We never made a Q-Trim....
