Question Stingers difference in sound with FRPP X-pipe?

Hey guys,

OK so I got some FRPP/Borla stingers and they are freaking awesome. I'm putting on a FRPP X-pipe very soon and I wondered, how does this affect the volume, tone, burble, resonance, WOT etc. . I'm gonna guess this is somewhat common setup. Otherwise anything else you guys noticed about the FRPP x-pipe soundwise? I have scoured the forums and I can't find what i'm looking for. My concern is losing the deepness, the rumble and the WOT scream.

I have heard contradictory infomration. I have heard 'its deeper', and I have heard it makes it 'its def. less deeper'. Jeeez... which is it? LOL.

Anyway, lemme know your experiences with it. Thanks,

-CJ

My FRPP X-pipe made the exhaust (with GTAs) tone smoother and deeper, and slightly louder. I love it. It's hard to describe in words really, as you can imagine.

I just did this a couple weeks ago. welded in a ford racing x pipe to go with my borla "stingers". The result was that it got rid of all my drone (which did come back once I put my intake back on), lowered the volume of the borlas a little bit (didn't change how they sound, just lowered the vol.), and smoothed out the burbling on decel a bit. After a couple weeks, I'm still satisfied.

Overall, pretty nice mod for nice price and I think I would do it again if given the chance. I will say that if you don't want your borlas to be attenuated slightly, then DON'T do this mod. At first I was a little eh eh about the install, since the car didn't sound as loud, but now I think it makes the car sound more refined, and the burbling was getting a bit out of hand!

hope this helps

I did this mod last year but removed the X and went to a Hi-flow catted X from Magnaflow. Here is a before and after of the FRPP X pipe with Stingers. Pretty much echo's what everyone said above. If you browse my clips there is one of the Magnaflow as well.

- It makes the drone louder
- it makes the exhaust louder @ WOT
- it smooths out the pulses
- has a more aggressive sound.

Someone might not notice the difference unless you point it out to them, or you have the 2 cars sitting side by side.
Idle volume is the same but the pulses are smoother...

WOT is where the volume increased.

So which is it? Reduces or increases drone?

Ok did you do FRPP X-pipe and S-type at the same time? Do you have a video too? Actually, I noticed idle volume is less with str8 mufflers vs. baffled Flows. Louder at WOT at present.

I'm asking of course cause once the stock pipe is cut, that's it. LOL.

Btw guys I love the drone.

With engine completely stock, the x pipe (mated with stingers) made my car's (05 gt manual) drone disappear completely.

Once I put the C&L/bama91race back in, the drone came back(I guess at the same noise level as before, don't remember exactly cause I was running it stock for so long that I forgot how loud the drone was beforehand) with a vengeance.

Hope that clears things up.

Never ran stock mufflers,
Borla's were bought when I ordered the car, and on the day I picked the car up.

MRT intake was put on 3 - 4 months later

X-Pipe was put on a year later.

Had drone when I picked the car up, had drone when I put on the MRT,
had louder drone when I put on the seX-Pipe

Anyone running a CAI and Stingers with the stock mid-pipe?

If so, how did the CAI change the tone/volume? I know a CAI is my future someday and I do not want to lose any of the deepness or volume for that matter.

Yes, a tune can change the exhaust tone, make it more sound more agressive, or smoother, it depends on the tune.

I think I'm going to stay away from all mid-pipe changes for now 'cause except for the small periods of drone, these Stingers are perfect. I wouldn't change the tone or volume at all, they are exactly what I was looking for in those respects. Also I certainly do not want to reduce or eliminate any of the decel burble. I'm afraid an X would do just that.

I'll have to wait and see what happens to the tone/volume when I add a CAI (way down the road). Then if necesary I'll look at a mid-pipe to counter any adverse effects.
