An article in August's issue of 5.0 Mustangs and Super Fords magazine claims that by simply bolting on Steeda's underdrive pulleys they gained 13.2 hp and 9.9 lb-ft at the rear wheels. That seems a bit much for just a set of pulleys.

The article is on page 111 and is titled "And so it begins". It details a build up of an 05 GT to which they added:

JMS CAI
Stainless Works full exhaust (full length headers, x pipe, and axle back)
Steeda underdrive pulleys
CMRC delete plates
SCT custom tune

The end result was 304 hp and 321 lb-ft at the rear wheels.

So back to the pulleys, does the 13 rwhp claim seem a bit far fetched??? Any one else have these on their car and if so are there any problems keeping the battery charged???

I had pulleys on my 90 GT and eventually took them off because the gain wasn't that great and coupled with the already weak stock alternator keeping the battery at full charge was a pain.

was that gain as the last mod they did or the first one on a stock motor. that would make a differance but not 11 hp. I have considered them but my concern is the A/C. at an idle how would it affect the compressor. Steada claims the charging system is unaffected.

The pulleys were installed just after a cai & tune. The other perf mods were installed later.

We havn't really experienced weather in the 90's here yet, but if the air-conditioning is weak I'll be posting for sure. So far, 85 degree days, there's no issue. I doubt there would be a charging problem unless a car is loaded down with stereo or electronics equipment. We're dealing with brand new cars also. Could be a different story when they're five-six years old. UD pulleys are not my pic for perf mod of the decade!

Tony, there is no way I would have installed ud pulleys here if it was my daily driver. I used to spend a lot of vacation time at a lake/campground ne of Fresno (I know you know prox the area), 109, 112, 115 not abnormal. Your knees would start to shake at nite in a swimsuit when the temps dropped to 78 degrees. Like I said, not my pic for the best perf mod. A cooling (engine bay & trans) mod would best suit those in rattlesnake country!

Even the magazine writer thought it sounded high. I've read around 8rwhp above 4500 rpm, this seems high.

If you think thats hot try Qatar which is nedar Saudi Arabia. The ambient temps there are 120-135 and 100% humidity in the summer. That place stinks.

Been there done that too! More times than I care to remember. Fell asleep asleep in a lawnchair in Bahrain during the summer once.

Ouch! That hurt. That place makes you dream of 112.
