So I got a nail in my tire, last night and while replacing with the spare, I noticed how much lighter it was then the factory bullitts. Could you use 2 of them up front for drag racing? I think it is a 195/60-17. I know they say not to take them past 50mph, but for trips down the track, It could make for a low buck front setup, if you could find another at a junkyard.

Sure it would work...but it would be a wise move to upgrade the tiresat least. If a tech see's them, you could have issues. But I have seen it done many times over this year without issues. IMO

so is that statement !!

Oh boy it's Beverly Hillbillies meets Mustang drag racing
I don't know about you but I wouldn't want to be driving an unsafe donut tire doing 100+ mph in my $30k car in a situation where if I crash my car because of it, or worse yet kill myself or the other driver racing me, my insurance company will tell me to take a hike.
If you want smaller tires up front, buy some drag racing rims with skinny tires up front, which will safely get yourself up and down the track.

Ok, I expected some of the statements like "re-tar-ded", but if you look at the tires that are being used for skinnies, they are the Pep Boys specials. Most people are not using the skinnies designed for drag racing. How could those be any safer over 100mph than the spares? Yeah the rims look Hillbillyish, but for going down the track who cares? If safety is reduced it would not be a good idea. But I have yet seen a drag race specific set of wheels yet for the new Mustang, that did not require some modification. And how much do the Bogarts cost?

Well the safe operating speed of those tires is 89 MPH. There is a speed rating on the side of the tire. I looked it up since i was driving on my spare for more than 30 days. So if i can go 110 mph on my spair more than once and still be here then the strip is ok. Plus they rate the tires at maximum speed at maximum pressures for over 3 hours from what I have read to ensure that they dont fail.

EDIT: jvm051, that was meant to be a joke (which apparently some people have trouble seeing). It wouldn't make much sense to me to be running a tire that is not meant to handle the types of speeds attained in the quarter mile. I think investing some money in rims/tires that were meant to handle these types of speed would be a much wiser choice.

Honestly its too big of a risk...
Its tempting...but you'll be cussing out loudly as to WHY you did that when you lose control at the finish line...

People have been using "spacesaver" spares for years for low-buck front drag tires. I believe the "50mph max" is a CYA issue by the manufacturers and is ESPECIALLY important in regard to handling. Not much of that going on when you are dragging. Now if you are running a 200mph quarter... <chuckle>
Just my $0.02.
