I have ordered a set of Loud Mouths for my car and I was telling a co-worker about them. He insists the loss of back pressure because these pipes are pretty much stright will totally destroy my engine. I told him I have read about many folks buying this exhaust and no one has reported a problem, but he still insists we don't know what we are talking about or doing when it comes to exhaust, and SLP is selling garabage. Could someone please put my co-worker on the right track. Thanks

that dude has no idea what hes talking about. Reduced backpressure may result in a slight loss of low end torque, but usually is a trade off for gaining some hp up top. Not that you're going to gain or lose much with just an axle-back kit anyway.
By the way I have the Loud mouths and they sound awesome!

Your "friend"=ignorant *******. He's dead wrong since my engine feels the same as before yet somehow can **** people off @ 2in the morning when those SLPs bark.

I had a Bassani X-pipe put on my 05 with the comp cats. Still sounded stock just louder. I liked it but I wanted it louder. I then decided to add the SLP Loudmouth mufflers over the Flowmasters since they lost horsepower on dynos. I hated the SLP's in this combo. It sounded all metallicy when you got on the gas, almost like a rice burner. Actually reminded me of the old "glasspacks" sound. When you were just cruising it sounded ok and had that deep mustang rumble. But the tradeoff wasn't worth it to me.
I confess that it wasn't what I wanted or expected. On my 98 I had an off-road h-pipe and flowmasters. I guess that suits my taste. More of that deep flowmaster sound. I have removed the SLP's and currentl just have the Bassani X-pipe on for now.

If you lost power then why do many race cars have no mufflers, or cats.

I have over 14K on my "Original Muffler Deletes" & the car is fine. Your buddy is mistaken. Everyone who hears the car loves it. I am running 4" tips VS SLP's 3.5". See sig.

Thanks guys, this fool is really hard to get along with. I printed this thread and gave it to him. I wish you guys could have seen the look on his face. Now he claims the SLP will cause the valves to float and I should somehow compensate for the loss of back pressure. Anyways thanks again cause if it wasn't for boards like this one people would have to get advice from guys like my co-worker who is the perfect example of the shot that should have been swallowed.

That's generally me. LOL.

I did think I was wrong once. But I found out I was wrong.

Good luck with your set up Big.

I thought back pressure was mostly coming from the pipes themselves, not so much the mufflers, is that incorrect?

From what I have read it may be coming by way of the cats as opposed to the length of the pipe run. Once the cats are taken out of the equation I would assume that the pipe run will be the cause of any back pressure issues barring the mufflers of course.

Look at Cheese302

Arguements going back and forth... probably best if someone Dyno a before and after to have the true answer to this. In my mind, cats are the MAIN cause of backpressure, muffler would have very little to do with it...
