slow gt

I took my o7 gt 5spd to the track this last weekend and was very disappointed in the times. I've read all the articles and thread's an these car's running 13.5's stock but the best I could get was a 14.0. Not sure what's up. Doe's this seem average to yau'll????
60'-2.2
330-6.0
1/8-9.1@79.69
1000-11.8
1/4-14.0@101.71
temp was 80*

That does look about average. Keep in mind the times the magazines post are usually done in very good conditions, with semi-professional drivers behind the wheel.

Something to try out next time you go is to try a run where the engine is cool. I made a run one time when the engine had been cooling off for 45 minutes with the hood up. When I left the line, the temp. gauge had just barely made it to the normal straight up position. That run gained me .35 seconds over any other run that night.

Thanks for the tip. I ordered a cai/sct from breenspeed so hopefully that will make some difference. Mabey I was expecting to much, but I thought the 93/94 cars ran about that fast stock with 260 hp.

According to the mags, yes they did. According to real life (like what you just did at the track) they were in the mid 14's most of the time.

Here is a link to the timeslip thread. This shows the fastest time posted on these boards for a stock vehicle is 13.55. Ultimate best case scenario...yes the car can do 13.50's stock....but don't count on it.

Just wondering, will the cai and tune do as much as everyone say's they will ? When you installed your's, could you tell a difference in power just by driving your car ? Just noticed your car is vista blue also, do you like the color as much as I do ?

The setup will definitely suprise you in the power and response areas. I can feel that it is more powerful, especially in the upper rpm's. The throttle is much more responsive too. When you push on the gas, she really goes now!

I do like the Vista, it is an interesting color. It seems like depending on the lighting conditions, it looks totally different. I just wish it was easier to keep clean!

14.0 is VERY good for a 2.2 60'. Work on your launch because you obviously know how to shift.

I was having a hard time launching the car, seemed like to much and it would spin and not enough it would bog really bad. Time for some drag radials. Thanks for the input guy's, I feel a little better now, at least i've got a good starting point. Time to start spending.

You can always try lowering the rear tire pressure to around 22-25psi. That will give you a little more grip on the line.

Just work on launching..

I have the same problem.. i can't launch at the track if my life depended on it..

13.8@103mph w/ 2.3 60' in totally stock form with 18" fanblades (which i think don't help)

One of my friends was gonna lend me his sticky rubber if he got eliminated early in the bracket racing.. unfortunately he didn't

but another guy who went up with me ran a 13.4 @ 1xx w/ 1.9 60' .. his only mod was FRPP Stingers.

Totally stock I ran 13.6 at I believe 104mph? I dont remember, but thats not too far off. You can drop that with some slicks to low 13s easily as it seems the S197 has a hard time hooking, especially with the stock throttle lag.

Just to give you an insight, last time I ran a year ago, after I got my intake and tune, I went 13.21, and it was hot as HELL that day.

If you are running 18" wheels and 3.31 gears, that sounds about right. I ran a 13.6 "out of the box" with my car, but I have 17" wheels and 3.55 gears stock.

I've only been to the track once. In my '07, with 3.31's, intake, tune, delete plates, and off-road pipe, my best time was a 13.5 with a 2.1 60'. There's more to be had in that 60', but I don't think I can do much better with stock tires. 14.0 is not terrible for bone stock.

Welcome to the need for speed!!!!

Don't feel too bad about 14's for your first time out in stock form. It took me 7 runs to get to 13.9. And it took me 3 more days of practice to knock out that 13.678 (stock 3:55 gears). The BFGs on the 18's are slightly better tires and a little wider than the stock 17 inch Pirellis even if the total weight is about 4-5 pounds more per corner. As others said, try airing down to about 22 psi at the rear and air up the fronts a little more to reduce rolling resistance. You can also pull that short rubber intake nozzle off the airbox. And work on modulating the cluch and the gas to control the wheel spin a bit.

Oh, you'll love what Brenspeed and a CAI can do. I went from a stock 13.678 at 103.3 to 13.362 at 106.3 on fan blades with a C&L Racer and 93 octane tune from Brenspeed.
