I ran a 2001 mustang gt with my 05 and got beat down.
He said it was stock? First from a light then from a roll!

Do you drive a stick or auto? If its a stick how long have you been driving one and how long have you had the car? You probably just don't know the right shift points yet.

What do you mean by "beat down"? I've seen a near stock (Magnaflow mufflers welded in, UA2k1GT) '01 GT auto run a 13.66, and the worst '05 GT time we've seen is 14.2. So his absolute best time vs. your absolute worst time should only be about .4 or .5 seconds apart.

is yours a GT or a V6? It wouldn't make sense that if his is stock and yours is a GT unless there is a driver error here.

Your car should win, but then again, people don't always tell the truth about their cars? Did the car sound stock? The other car could have had set of gears installed, and you'd never know it.

I have 1500 miles and he was shifting before me.
I did seem to be gaining in 3rd gear but cars ahead had to slow down.
Also i have had many cars before i know when i lost.
But i have ran side by side with a 2000 gt with lots of mods!

IMO, you need to invite him to the track. There won't be any traffic, etc to contend with and everything is timed etc. Plus it's safer than street racing.

He probably knows his car inside and out ....
And shifting @ 6000 is probably too high

From what we've seen here, guys get the most out of their car from 5150-5400

if he was shifting before you, I'd suggest that he's geared in the back.... The smallest gear ratio that he would have from the factory is 3.27, and you're at 3.55... you should be shifting before he is if you're both shifting at the same RPM. Plus, like Boomer said, most people are getting better ETs shifting before 5500 RPMs.... the torque curve drops off pretty steeply at that point. Try shifting a little sooner, and I wouldn't take his word for it that he was stock.... but then again.... he may have just beat you plain and simple.

Prolly gears. Either he's stock or he's not stock. Shouldn't be difficult for him to figure this out.

How many IS 300's do you see going 160 mph daily?? Exactly, the numbers do not represent how fast the cars go, they're just simply whatever the manufacturer decides to put. A lot of cars used to have spedometers that went to about 80mph however the cars went faster than that. Other cars have spedometers that go to 140+ however they won't go that fast.

My 03 civic's speedo went to 140, I had it to 100-105 mph before but you could tell it wasn't pulling at all anymore. Maybe on a downward slope with the wind at my back I coulda coaxed it to go 120.

Funny this should be mentioned though, my boss was checking out my car and said, "WTF only 140?! My car says 160!!!"

He drives a g35 sedan.
