Skinny front runenrs (drag wheels)

What is everyone using for skinnies for the track? I know there are a few hardcore racers in here.

I like the Bogarts but they are a bit pricey for my taste. Is there an alternitive wheel combo that will clear the stock front brakes and calipers? I would like to run somthing different for the track for weight reduction and less rolling resistance without breaking the bank.

Ok fire away.

I run 15x3.5, w/1.75" bs Weld Draglites. To clear the calipers, I use 11/16" spacers (1/4 + 7/16), and I have 3" Moroso studs in the hubs. The hubs had to be drilled out to accept the studs because the knurl size is different.

Thanks for the info Don. How much material did you have to drill out for the studs? Also what length are the stock studs? I assume they are not long enough to compensate for the added 11/16 spacer combo that you mentioned. Which I gather you achieved using one 1/4 inch spacer and one 7/16th spacer together?

That's exactly what we did here at the shop. We used Draglites (Weld PN#9054340) and then used Moroso studs (I believe PN#46185) and had to dremel just a little bit for the stud to press in properly. Worked fantastic! We used (2) 5/16" spacers, the clearance was tight. I didn't get a chance to weigh it with the MT's. This whole setup can be had for cheaper than 2 Bogart wheels alone.

I just took the hubs to a machine shop to have them drilled... the knurl size of the studs I used was 0.594. The stock studs are at least 1/2" shorter, if not more. And yes, one 1/4 inch spacer and one 7/16th spacer together.

Yep... exact same wheels/studs I used. And my wheel/tire combo weighed 24 lbs each. By comparison, my street wheel/tire weighs in at 57 lbs each.

That sounds about right... I was about to say it was atleast half the weight. Looks nice on your car, too. How did the 60 ft times improve for you? What size rubber on the rear?

Those wheels/tires were just a small part of a major "overhaul" last year (engine, trans, rear end, suspension, tires/wheels, etc.), so I can't pinpoint how much they helped the 60' times. My best 60' to date is 1.52. On the rear, I'm running 28x10.50-15 M/T ET Drag slicks on 15x9 Weld XP Draglites.

That's great numbers. I saw the rear conversion back in an old post. Any more crazy builds this winter?

Sorry for hijacking the thread!

Hijack away CR. I like to talk shop with others that know more about racing than the average Joe on the TMS. Not to bash but the thread dosen't contain a whole lot of info that is "more involved" than who has the best CAI kit and where do you get your tunes ans so forth. I think I will look into this combo for the fronts. I run stock 17" wheels and DR's in the rear right now. My goal is to run consistant mid 12's N/A. Right now I am trying to eliminate weight from this pig of mine.
