karman, good point. That made me go back and check my dyno charts as well. You're right. At least for me with my mods (CAI, tune, UDPs) my peak HP is around 5600 but it is fairly level from from 5400 to over 6000 (rev limiter bumped up to 6800 via tune). Peak TQ somewhere around 4500. Unless HP is still climbing sharply above 6000, it is better to shift somewhere between 5600 and 5800 (in my example) since I get more umph by putting it back into the peak TQ range after the upshift rather than riding out the flattening HP curve until it starts dropping.

Still, the response is still generally the same, however. Don't just hold it in gear until redline just because you can. Depending on how your car is makeing power, it could be better to shift before redline for maximum performance.

now, back to the original topic....

How easy are the shift lights to hook up?

Fairly easy. I believe TacoBill has a good write-up of his install.

There's a stock shift light that is disabled from the factory.

I have a raptor and it's resting in the well of the tach gauge cluster. The cable goes between the well and the plastic window of the actual tach, so it does not slide around. I had it in the center cluster, but didn't like how it was blocking the useless gauges in there.

I like how that one was installed on the upper console, but I wonder if a helmet would block the light to the eyes.

I have yet to see anyone get it to work.

When I get to it, I'm doing the cyclops from PMP, also.

The latest SCT database for the S197 PCM shows that the factory sets the switch to "0", and there are some tables to play with.

I don't know why everyone cares about a small little up arrow. In other cars, the light only comes on when it's "mpg time" to shift not when it's "race time". And, the light is so small I don't think it'll help anyway.

It comes on when it is programmed to come on. The GT500's SVT logo is just an overlay but it doesn't come on to maximize your gas mileage

I like to keep it looking factory stock instead of tacking on a gawdy ricer shift light that attracts unwanted attention.

Yes, the GT500's is user adjustable, but the little orange arrow that everyone refers to (with the rest of the dash lights under the rev gauge) is NOT typically adjustable.

BTW, the Raptor shift light is neither gawdy nor ricey

Show me proof it works, then I will believe you.
