I'm a little outside of Baltimore at 21015. That was a good read on the intakes.

I got mine for right around 550 for the intake, tuner and 3 tunes.
That's exactly what I did and it worked out great- thanks. (went to Bama)

Do these CAI w/tuners require premium gas? My friend was telling me I do but I didn't think it was technically required. Just recommended for best performance. Can anyone shed some light on this and if its true.

CAI + no tune = lean.

Simply stated, a tune is required if you change the volume of air or your engine can run dangerously lean. Hp & Tq are secondary matters…

There are probably 100 threads on this site alone discussing this topic.

You = lier. Know what you say before you spit out trash.... Doesn't mean lean at all...

Edit: just reread it. Didn't mean to come across that rude

Your computer is equipped with an a/f measuring system and will automatically compensate more air with more fuel.

Nobody cares that you destroy your '97... But those with nice cars should be concerned. Am I being rude gain? Oops.

JK... Don't get your panties in a bunch. You have a nice car, but who's the D-Bag standing in front of it?

Lol its cool. I was in a mood.

Modern pcms automatically control a/f ratios. It is impossible to run lean with a Cai. Just sayin.

Thanks.

Just heads up if you didn't know. I work on these and am studying the Pcm and other modules to get my master electrical certification. I can explain why you can't throw off the a/f ratio with a Cai but it will be a lengthy post...

And thanks. I got some big plans for it... If I can get the money to back it .

Im speaking from my experience, I picked up a K&N cold air for a REALLY good price and did not have $$ for a tuner. The K&N is a "no tune required" cold air. The improvement in performance was minimal but it sounded GREAT. After a couple of months I had the cash so I picked up a tuner from AM with 3 tunes. Now the car is noticeably faster. On top of that, the throttle response alone is worth the price! I got 3 tunes, the first was a mellow tune that can use 87 octane, the second uses 93, the third also uses 93, but you can have them tune it whatever way you want. The tune is what really makes the power. Just my .02
