Short throw shifters?
Now that the S197 has been around for afew years it looks like there are several options for short throw shifters. The Hurst billet shifter has been released for afew months and I was wondering if anyone has tried it or even more important compared it to a different shifter other than stock?
I've only had the stock shifter in this car prior to getting the MGW , but wow what difference. Do a search on MGW and you find a lot of guy's had other shifters first and switched to the MGW ...
The Stillen shifter (roughly 60% shorter throw than OEM) is on sale this month - $199 (normally $292.95). At this price, it doesnt include free shipping though.

I was looking at this as well. Do you have any pictures of it installed.
I have had the hurst billet for a little bit now (about a few hundred miles anyway). It has been nice to me. I don't power shift or anything like that, but have enjoyed the shifter alot. I love the height. At first I thought since it was a little higher than stock I would not like it. But now I love it way more than the stock **** height.
The Pro5.0 has some NVH only because I have it mated to the Hurst handle. When I put the stock **** on it has zero NVH. I was thinking of trying the billet hurst but the design looks to be the same as the Pro5.0 so I doubt that I would gain any improvement.
Depends which hurst. I had the comp plus and it was a peice of crap in comparison. I'm sure the billet one is much Improved. I've also tried the triax and pro 5.0. MGW is still the best for feel, fitment, adjustability, and quality as far as I'm concerned.
Had the regular Hurst for some time and went to the MGW after seeing and testing a couple other TMS members cars with the MGW. I can't compare it to the Pro5.0 but it was night and day beyond the Hurst.
Notice the trend: All these folks that have posted and said "I had X and then I tried MGW. I wouldn't go back!" But you don't see ONE SINGLE POST where someone said "I had X and then tried MGW. What a waste! I reinstalled X and am happy once more!"
Before I bought my MGW, I wondered just how good it actually could be. I had seen posts by people that refused to spend ANY money on an aftermarket shifter UNTIL MGW released theres. They had used MGW shifters in the past and held them in that high of regard. I thought they were being a bit stuck-up, personally.
But know I find myself wondering if I install the 6 speed tranny in my car, does MGW have a shifter that will fit???

The MGW causes shifting to be a two step process for me, i.e., move the handle towards the gate, it stops, push and then it goes in. Also very hard to get into 1st, 2nd, and reverse. Tried a few recommendations from George but didn't work. As is typical with his great customer service, he asked me to send it to him so he can check it out. I have the stocker back in the car and although it truly sucks, at least I can get into all the gears with no effort.
I hope George can figure it out and if so I'll put it back in, if not, then I'm going back to the Pro 5.0 or maybe even a Tri-Ax since it's the same shifter.
