Hi Ron..... on your install did you use the replacement pinion flange or an adaptor?
Tom, Pinion flange, but like I said I didn't do the install, so I don't know if it was talked about by the installer or SM.

If it was my Mustang I would go with the 3.5 inch diameter shaft without the adapter plate. We have sold many shafts with the adapter without any complaints, but I agree with the one vendor on this forum who feels that it is better to keep it simple, it is one thing less to go wrong, to worry about. The main thing with changing the pinion flange is to know ones limitations. If your not knowledgable with the procedure go to a shop that deals in differentials to have it done. Otherwise you may be subjecting yourself to differential problems which is why many choose to go with the adapter.

Just to be clear, Ron had a V6 Mustang which does not require an adapter or a different pinion flange. Our V6 shaft bolts right in where the original came out. It is only V8's that require an adapter or replacement pinion flange.

To answer a different question that was posed. Either the use of the adapter plate or relacement pinion flange will change the length of the driveshaft from the original. The adapter plate will use a shaft that is approximately 1" shorter, the replacement pinion flange will use a shaft that is approximately 1 1/4" longer. Either one is going to run at proper angles. Remember, you are replacing a 2 piece shaft that uses "ball and cage" style ends.
Thanks, David

V8 shafts with adapter plate weigh 18.5lbs. V8 shafts with pinion flange weigh 17lbs, we do not count the flange because it is replacing an existing flange. V6 shafts weigh 17lbs.
Thanks, David
