For anyone interested, I've ran the 3.5" Shaftmasters shaft with adaptor since December. It has performed flawlessly, and this includes full throttle launches at the strip while running 325/45 drag radials and turning 11.7 ETs.

 

Sooo tempting.

Must repeat mantra "Must save money, Must save money, ..."

Weight savings? My Shaftmaster 3.5" weighed just under 17 lbs. The stocker weighed almost 40 lbs.

Well, first and foremost the Spyder is a 4"....... this is a 3.5". And I believe you'll find the 3.5" has a higher torque rating- but check for yourself to be sure.

Wife: The car is fast enough already
Me: But I want the car to be faster
Wife: But didn't you do something to make it faster before?
Me: yes, but that was some time ago

Installed my 3.5" Shaftmaster a few weeks ago, car has been up to 100+ a few runs with zero vibration and smooth operation/shifting. The car seems to 'coast' faster now though; less drivetrain loss I guess? I had to relearn my trailing distances / pedal releases on the highway to compensate. All set now!

I had the Roush driveshaft safety loop thrown on also at the time of the install...

 

Strategic error. You've always gotta play the safety/money saving factor with the wife.

Here's what I've come up with so far:

• Stronger driveshaft--don't want to risk a broken driveshaft.
• Better gas mileage--it'll pay for itself in a month or two!
• It's a $50 savings if I act now!

Any others??? Help me out here fellas...

I have a question. Probably a stupid question for those in the know, but since I have just started researching the one piece driveshafts, I will ask....

Why do all the aluminum replacement one piece driveshafts for the GT require either an adaptor plate, or a pinion flange replacement? Why is there not an aluminum one piece shaft that bolts straight up to the existing pinion flange. I notice that is the case on the V6, but not the Gt???? Please educate me....

I believe there is...... Brenspeed offers one but it's significantly more expensive than what you'll find for units that either include an adaptor or swap pinion flanges.
