Saleen Suspension Install Work

I am cloning a Saleen S-281SC and the next step is to put in the Racecraft Suspension components. I ordered the kit today and expect to have it within a week. If you are interested in seeing how to do the job let me know. I am going to post pics and give a good write up. I will also tell you how the car handles differently.

I had read an old issue of MM&FF Sept '05 with the introduction of the then new 05 Saleen Mustang that it was a good suspension overall. My interpretation of the rather brief discription. Good luck with the install, I'm sure to keep my eyes open for your write up.

You are right it is not a complete kit since it does not address the stock rear sway bar, rear upper and lower control arms and panahrd rod. It is basically a good starting point to change the struts, shocks, springs and front sway bar. Later on I am going to install the Saleen Watts linkage which also includes the Saleen rear sway bar and theSaleen Extreme rear control arms to complete the suspension upgrade.

One Day Delay Already

My parts are on the way and on-time for the scheduled delivery but I am up against a one day delay already. I have to take the kids Easter egg hunting on the day I planned to do the job. There is no way of avoiding it. If I skip out on the Easter egg hunt I will have to hear that common nag that women give you "You love you car more that us" Waah Waaah Waaaaaah! Right now I hate the "Easter Bunny" and wish I had a shot gun full of rabbit pellets. I am going to have to look at those cool parts just sitting on the floor while I am peeling pastel colored eggs a whole week early

Part Arrived

The part arrived on time. As you can see it came in an authentic Saleen Box. You have to be careful since there are places selling fake Saleen suspension systems. I will do the install job on Monday since I got to take the kids easter egg hunting all weekend!

Wonder if you'll do this with a car lift or with jack stands? Can't wait to hear what you think. I also have a Satin Silver 07 mustang and absolutely love the Saleen body kit on your car, sadly I don't have the means "$" to do the body kit and wheels at this time. Good luck!

Omar,
I am going to do the job on a lift. As for getting a body kit and wheels watch for parts on ebay and your money will go further. The Saleen wheels are flooding the market and people sell them cheap. The non-chrome ones are especially cheap but they look better on a silver car than the chrome ones.

Saleen Suspension Cloning Success!

While most people were eating easter eggs and chocolate I installed my Saleen Suspension kit as soon as I got out of the early church service this morning. I must say that Saleen does a good job with their instructions and I installed their parts with no problems. I had more of a problem getting the car up on jack stands than actually changing the parts. The car is low to the ground already with the body kit on it and I couldn't safely get it on the lift or use a hydraulic floor jack. I had to use the factory scissor jack....talk about slow If you plan on doing the same job my tips for success are 1. Take your time 2. Be very meticulous about accurate torques 3 Use red locktite on all of your connections. If anything is not torqued properly and locktited things will come loose and you will have the clunks. I have provided some pics of my work for you all to see. Make sure to read my personal review of the suspension kit in the next post!

I bought the kit off of ebay for 699.00 from Apex Motorsports. They ship for free and their price is 100.00 less than getting it directly from Saleen.

Suspension Performance Review

I just got back from a couple hours of driving with the Saleen Suspension installed and I wanted to leave a performance review about the things that I noticed. I am very pleased with the improvement in the handling. Now I won't say something unrealistic like the car now rides on rails or sticks to the road like glue because it doesn't. The Saleen kit does offer crisp handling response and eliminates the car's squat during acceleration and nose dive during hard braking like it did with the stock suspension. The factory set up was very spongy and allowed a lot of body roll, squat and nose dive. I have read where people have said in posts that the Saleen rode like a "dump truck" so I can only imagine what they would say about what a stock mustang gt rides like. The Saleen kit is what Ford should have put in the car to begin with. It offers a nice ride that won't beat you up when you drive on uneven surfaces and good street performance handling. I really can't compare it to cars with the FRRP, Steeda, Roush or other suspension kits but for 699.00 I am very pleased. It lowered the car about an inch in the front and about 1.3 inches in the back. It got rid of the raked look and the car has a more aggressive profile without looking like a "low rider"

Big Brake Kit

Wow,
when I took a second look at the pics I took in this thread I can really see that I need a big brake kit.

Great work!

Quick question, does this kit come with the springs on the struts already or did you have to compress them on? Also, I was not aware that it included a new sway bar, just the front or both front and rear or did you buy that separetely?
This kit seems to be a great bang for the buck considering you get a lower stance (appearance) and improved performance with better handling. I think I had found a website with a great price on this kit but I doubt it included free shipping or that it is a reputable company to buy from, I'll look for the site. Thanks again for your review and do you have before and after pics of how it stands now?

This is where I found this kit for $599 plus shipping. http://www.newedgeperformance.com/in...rodID=437&HS=1 I don't know about this company but I'll do more searching before I take the plunge with them. I went to Saleen's website and found more info about this kit, guess I answered my own question, it does include the front sway bar, great and I don't think it comes with the springs on the struts.

Hi Omar,
the kit I bought did not come pre-assembled so you will have to compress them and move the factory bracket from the stock assembly to the Saleen assembly. If you don't have the proper tools for this process take the parts to midas or meineke and have them do it for you. There is a cheap two piece strut compressor out there that people use but it is very dangerous. Don't use that type. The kit includes the front sway bar but not the rear. I do have before and after stance pictures and will post them. It lowered the car about an inch in the front and a little more than an inch in the back which eliminated that huge gap between the fender and the tire. I suggest that you don't buy the kit from new edge performance because they mix and match the parts with non Saleen Parts. I contacted them and they wanted to sell me the Saleen Shocks and Struts with Vogtland springs that were violet in color....Yuk and they were going to charge me 49 dollars in shipping. So for an extra 50 bucks you can get the authentic kit from Apex motorsports on ebay with free shipping. If you have any more questions let me know. Later I am going to ad the Saleen Parneli Jones Watts link and rear sway bar.

Hey guys!
Just wanted to chime in to say I purchased the Saleen kit from New Edge Performance, and yes, they do supply the kit with Voghland springs. However, I am sure a quick google search will show they are definately one of the best aftermarket springs out there. As far as color goes, to be honest, mine are red (although they are usually purplish), but you can't see them with the wheels on anyway so who cares . As far as the ride goes, I agree, this is for sure how the car should have come from the factory. Good luck in your search, and I am sure you will enjoy the setup regardless of where you purchase.
