Awwwwww, yeah. I thought the install was an ordeal, Scott (SP_51-F1) thinks it was easy. It took 6 days (about 4.5 days of actual work) instead of my expected two. We broke a few things. A bolt (replaced for 5 bucks), a plug (I had an extra), and I destroyed the threads on the bypass valve arm that sticks out of the side of the s/c (this is NOT replaceable). We had to make a shim to cover the distance of the bad threads, luckily the threads on the tip weren't messed up.

Here's the finished install pic:

Here's the link to my dyno print out:
http://i1.tinypic.com/of0o0n.jpg

Tune 1: 401 rwhp / 386.5 rwtq / 12.0 AF
Tune 2: 412 rwhp / 390.6 rwtq / 12.5 AF

I'm a bit disappointed with the numbers given my setup:
2.3L twin screw
8 lb pulley
90 mm maf
39 lb injectors
conical high flow filter

Still, the car is a beast and the JDM tunes run incredibly smoothly. The car drives like stock except with a crap load more power...

Finally, here is the link to my install thread (with pics and documentation of all our problems):

Yay, I'm blown finally...

We are indeed a jaded society when we are disappointed with 400+ rwhp.

Chris,
I bet it runs great and there will be very few cars on the street able to mess with you. And at those power levels, your engine will last a very long time Don't worry about numbers, just enjoy the beast.

Ditto, who cares about arbitrary numbers, you have more than enough power for serious fun

Looks great, congrads on getting blown! Numbers look good, engine will be very happy with that amount added "stress" for a long time.

Let her buck!

Hey guys, thanks for the posts... Yall are right, I shouldn't be so hung up on numbers...but it's hard...I'm a computer programmer! Truth be told, I haven't (and probably never will) floor it in first (and maybe even 2nd) with these 4.10s in the back. The dyno graphs are just for bragging...

MustangFreak, as of the beginning of Jan., Saleen raised the price from $5000 to $5700. That is the listed retail price though. I got mine for $4370.

Just going to take a sec to plug JDM's tunes...

I am extremely pleased with JDM's Saleen s/c tunes. They were perfect right out of the box, no surging or ANY driveability issues at all. The Street s/c tune holds a safe and steady 12.0 AF through the entire RPM range. Hehe, tuning turned out to be the most painfree part of this entire installation... The price is right too!

A.R.T. (American Racing Tech) in Buda. Kinda a long drive from North Austin, but it was a fun drive... $50 for two pulls with AF.

did you send your PCM to saleen for the inital tune? Or did you just put JDMs tune on directly using a predator or Xcal?

Nice! It should live a long, happy life at those numbers with a good tune. You know what will happen if you go too much further, and only one of those things is good.

LOL, It was easy! That is what has me wanting to do one so bad right now. Matt was right, I hate you!

Don't worry about the numbers, I bet the humidity had a lot to do with them. She drove great to me, I bet she is mean on dry roads.
If you want to trade rides, I might even look past it not being Mineral Grey.

dcranford, no, I didn't send the PCM to Saleen. I heard their tune blows anyways... I loaded the JDM tune from my SCT XCAL2.

schmads, heck yeah! When are you going to the Home Depot parking at 1431?

4370 is a strong price. Mind sharing how, where.....who I hafta kill?

This spring I'll be selling my 66 fastback and I've already earmarked some money for 05 performance mods.

I thought that the Saleen kits were making over 400hp with just 4-5lbs of boost?

If you have an upgraded 8lb pulley you should be a lot higher. Or am I wrong?

I got mine from texashotrods.com. You have to call and ask what "real" price is cuz I think on their website, they just list what Saleen lists. I also ordered mine in December, right before the price increase, but still, it was $700 less than the old Saleen price of $5000.

Saleen advertises that their bolt on kit makes 400 hp at the crank. That's 100 hp over stock. Mine makes ~415 hp at the rear wheels. Compare that to a stock GT which makes ~265 at the rear wheels. I've picked up ~150 hp at the rear wheels. If you assume 15% drivetrain loss, I'm making ~485 hp at the crank. That's 185 more than stock and 85 more than Saleen's advertised gains.

Still, some people are running the same setup as me and are making 20-30 more hp than me, so I'm investigating that.

Ahhhh, I thought that Saleen was claiming 400hp at the wheels. You are putting down some good numbers then. Nice work.

I'm looking at the Saleen set up, but I'm hurting for cash flow right now since I have a baby on the way. Oh well, maybe they'll be a couple thousand less by the time I can get one.
