Saleen SC Question

Hey all, I'm looking to install a Saleen SC in the next month or so and I just want to make sure it's the right unit.

I like it because of how stock it looks and it seems like it will make just enough power for me. I'm not looking to be an extreme HP car, but I know it can get the stock block to 500rwhp pretty easily.

So my main question for those of you that have this unit or those of you that have a good knowledge of it is is will this unit give me a very stock like driveability until I step on it? I guess I just want some of your personal feelings on the unit and driving your car with the unit on it.

I would watch the 500rwhp on the stock block...it seems that the magic number is around 450rhwp, although alot have been doing fine going higher.

Yeah. I think 450 rwhp is the key, 500 might be pushing it. I'm sure tom281 and alot of others can fill you in much better than I. I am interested in the exact same blower and have been for about 6 months. I'm saving for it now.

I have the Saleen SC in my 05 GT.My best friend and I installed it in his garage about a year and a half ago. Taking our time total time was 11 hours. Pretty straight forward install. I think the consensus for hp to the wheels with stock internals is about 450. I went with 3.6 pulley which uses the Saleen stock belt, went with 03/04 Cobra 39 lb injectors, was running the wmsracing CAI before upgrade but had to go to their 95mm MAF,custom tune locally by XX Tuning in CT with a conservative tune dyno'd at 430 rwhp and 424 torque with A/F at 11.6 pretty much the whole rpm range to 6200. Still running stock fuel pump and at the time of the tune was totally stock exhaust, add a Manaflow hi-flow catted x-pipe along with a one piece 3.5 drive shaft. Car is quick and a joy to drive. The low end torque is crazy. All I can say is you can't put it into words. You gotta drive them to beleive how good it feels to step on that peddle and feel the power. For me the Saleen was the best option price, ease of installation, street ablility, and the looks.I think you can't go wrong with this set up for a daily driver.

Hey, sorry to hijack, but any Saleen owners with the Saleen hood, do you still have to lower the engine to make it work or does the Saleen hood clear the charger?

My Saleen with Brenspeed custom tune drives like stock until you hammer it; then watch out. If you have a decent amount of common sense and a set of tires that are in good shape, you should be fine.

How is the gas mileage affected? I mean, if I stay off the gas is the mileage still pretty good?

And as far as HP goes, I think I agree with you guys saying 450 is the magic number. I don't think I'd go over that till I rebuild the engine. Hell, by that time I may just build a new engine from the block up. That would be a fun project!

I think I will start with the basic supercharger kit and use my Steeda Carbon Fiber intake with it (I think it's compatible). Add in the 39lb injectors, boost upgrade and GT500 Throttle body and I think that would be a good start. And I would probably get a smaller pulley, though not too much smaller.

From there I still have room to upgrade. I don't want to do all the work at once because then I won't have any more bolts ons to do! And that's no fun! So then I could do an even smaller pulley, GT500 fuel pump, and better Heat Exchanger. Not to mention a driveshaft upgrade somewhere in there along with 3.55's and long tube headers.

Yeah, I think that could be a pretty nice, not to mention fast car.

So what do you guys think of my master "plan?"

Hey there,

I just spoke with Saleen about this very issue. They say its a cosmetic issue. The S/C itself clears the hood, but in SOME cases, the rubber tube brushes up against the hood liner.

Hope this helps some

Sounds like a great plan. I know I've taken care of the gears and headers and have held off on doing the CMDP and underdrive pulleys that most do because I know that I'm gonna get that blower and don't want to get things that'll just be useless. I wish I had gotten the blower first though, all these other mods have put the kibosh on the blower for a while.

+1...I put brenspeeds stage 3 kit on mine and then we did my dads with the same unit. Both turned out great and were relatively easy to do. The colder plugs made it take a little longer to warm up when you first crank it up but other than that it is just like stock until you get into the boost. Both of ours are daily drivers. If you can afford it, FI is definitely the best bang for the buck!

I'm running what I call the "Brenspeed Stage 3.5" system- to their normal Stage 3 I added a 3.2" pulley, GT500 fuel system, Extreme intake, and upgraded high capacity heat exchanger. This system along with aluminum driveshaft and 4.10s I can still pull 22-24mpg on the interstate (70mph). Factor in city driving, and my overall average is about 17mpg. And that is NOT driving easy, as I get on my car everytime I drive it; drive it like you stole it or drive it like you've paid for it, however you want to look at it LOL.

Gas mileage is pretty close to stock if you stay out of boost (but thats hard to do)
IIRC, the gt500 TB doesn't get you any gains, so put that coin into something else. LT's should get you about 20 rwhp.

450whp is prob the safe limit according to the general consensus, but some like to push that a little. Been running a 3.2 pulley for about a year and a half with good luck (480 rwhp).

The sotp (seat of the pants) gains you get after a cai and a tune will seem like a total joke after driving your wheels with FI for the first time .

Best of luck.

I know exactly what you mean! On my 07 V6, I put an X-Charger from Explorer Express. The first time I drove my car with that addon on there is unforgettable.

I installed that myself with some help from buddies so I'm not afraid at all to install the Saleen kit...actually I'm really excited! How could I not be?
