rotorpros rotors question

I just finished installing my new rotorpros rotors. I ordered some Hawks ceramic pads as well but will do the pads later as I want to wait until it warms up a bit........so I can paint my calipers first and then install the pads. My car is just stored right now.....but I noticed the other day when I was just backing it out of the garage to just move it around a bit......there is some noise coming from the brakes when I apply the brakes. The noise is more pronounced when I hit the brakes harder. It sounds kind of like a tugboat.

Does anyone know if this is normal and/or part of the breaking in process?

If you've put on the new rotors, but not the new pads and haven't bedded the pads to the rotors, then some noise is to be expected. The surfaces of your old pads and the new rotors are not "mated" yet.....which is what the bedding process will do. As long as the car is stored and just moving around a bit in your garage/shop there shouldn't be a problem. When you put the new pads in, be sure to follow the bedding process that is recommended by the pad and rotor manufacturer.

Thanks that is what I was hoping to hear. I believe Hawks has some kind of procedure to follow.

Yep, ordered them directly from Rich at Rotorpros just not too long ago. Managed to finally install them.

They have a website and all his contact info is there. He is very quick to respond through both email and phone.

He said the sound I am getting is normal.

If I might ask, what is the bedding process for those pads? Do you drive the car in a certain way or is it something one does during three actual installation?

I got a "tugboat" sound with mine even after bedding the pads. The harder I pressed the pedal, the more pronounced. It is just the slots and drilled holes making the difference IMO. I ended up changing my rotors for slotted only for road course use and the sound is much less.

Has anyone else experienced this "tugboat" sound with the Rotorpros rotors? I hope it goes away after some driving around and breaking in because it is very annoying and would me drive me crazy

I've had the slotted and drilled Rotorpros's on for several years now and I've never had any noise ...

Not even at the very beginning when they were installed?

Mine made a little noise for the first couple drives, but have been silent ever since. And that was without new pads as my stockers only had about 3.5K miles on them when I installed the rotors.

If there was any noise initially it wasn't bad enough that I remember it. I had new EBC green pads installed at the same time and they might have squealed a little at first but nothing else , certainly not any "tugboat sound" ...

I am hoping they have not changed the quality of the rotors over time. I wont really know with mine until I start driving it in the summer.

Directly from RotorPros. I actually contacted them last week to find out if they had rotors for Brembos and they quickly responded. Do a quick google search and you should be able to find their website.

No no no....I asked "WHEN" and not where you bought the rotors from.

I am just wondering if the quality of rotor has changed with time. I just received mine a couple of months ago.

I got my rotors from Rich last summer and didn't have any noise like that. I installed them with factory Ford pads, front and rear. I got the slotted-only rotors and they had a "sliding" sound while braking for the first few miles, which I attributed to the black zinc coating being worn off where the pads make contact. I think you're just getting noise because the brakes are cold and you haven't seated the pads yet. I wouldn't worry about it.
