Finally took my car into the dealership for the axle whine yesterday, they ordered the dampner kit as instructed by TSB 05-7-3

Took my car back today they put the dampner on and determined the whine was still unacceptable and have ordered a ring and pinion set from Ford.

Anyone else have this as the outcome of their rear axle whine service?

That sucks. To bad you didn't tell them to order some 4.10s for you while they were doing it. The labor is the most expensive part of that and since they already have to replace it, it should have been free.

That's what I did with my '98.... no noise, but the pinion seal was leaking. They wanted to just punch in a new seal, and I told them "heck no".... there was a strip on the undercarriage right above the yolk that indicated it had happened for some time.... didn't notice until the car sat in the garage for a week. Anyways... I'm glad I made them tear it appart, because the carrier bearings were shot and the carrier pin was sheered. ANYWAYS.... I had them swap out the 2.73s for a set of 3.73s.. offered to pay for parts. My buddy swung the deal and all I had to pay for was a new speedo gear.

I did think about it, I don't think they would go for warranty paying for the 4.10s maybe if I payed for them but I dont really wish to spend $200 right now.

I'll be happy with the stock replacment parts for free. What is the stock pinion gear ratio?

I heard the FRPP gears don't give any whine, while the motive ones a prone to gear whine.

Could be you heard wrong. Both gears are good but if installed incorrectly they will whine. What if I told you they are both could be made in the same factory in guess what country? Italy
Only difference is the name on the box.

Well I had the Motive 4.10's and they had some pretty annoying whine on deceleration from around 55-38mph. The installer tried to adjust them but had no luck and was unable to affect the noise. They went ahead and put in the FRPP 4.10's and guess what.....no more whine. There is still a little whine but you wouldn't notice it unless you listened carefully and knew what it was. Great shop BTW, no charge for the adjustment or install of the FRPP gears, they only charged me the difference in cost between the Motives and FRPP's.

The only time I have a whine that is really annoying is at exactly 65mph. I usually don't drive at a steady 65mph so it doesn't bother me.

If set up correctly, no gear set should whine. Period.

Dealership called yesterday morning the ring and pinion set had arrived. They came over to my work (About 2 miles) got the car at 9:30am, fixed it and brought it back around 2:30pm

No more whining. WOOHOOO!

So if anyone out that has the whine just take it in, if your dealership is as good as mine they will fix it right up.
