if i take the motor out from the bottom on my 06 mustang how do you lower it out from under the car?i have a 4 post lift.do you leave the trans connected to engine?

I would think (not know) you would drop the trans with the engine! Disconnect all necessary items k member cross member wires cables ect then lift the car.

I would think it easiest to PULL the engine, but never really gave it much thought. I had a video of the 05 assembly line that showed the powertrain module coming together, but couldnt find it...heres a 10 video, has a clip, but cant see the tranny. the older video showed pretty clearly the whole assembly coming in.

I would be leery of dropping the cradle and all out the bottom on a 2 post lift just because of the weight/balance shift...yet on a 4 poster I cant see how you would have clearance- the cradle/suspension is really wide. would really suck if the thing tipped back on a 2 poster, or got stuck between the body/lift on a 4 post. havent really looked, but sure looks like a nice big hood/engine compartment for pulling out the more traditional way...Ive got a drive-on bear alignment rack with the rolling jacks and pretty darn sure there would be no chance of dropping anything between the rails. I made up cradles for a pair of lift tables to pull the body off our 65 galaxie, think a wide lift from past the sides would be the only way to completely pull the cradle clear. first time off the gal it looked kinda scary how high the body had to go to clear the engine, but it worked great...but seeing the roof of your car nearly touching the garage ceiling was a little unnerving the first time around.

heres a video clip of how I separated the 65- cant see the rig, but I had made cradles that bolted thru the door openings, supported the body by the full length of the rockers right at the rocker pinchwelds- just had a couple sticks of 2x2x 1/4 tubing that stuck out to the lift tables...

Not only was the engine and transmission going in together but so was the front suspension. Clearly the easiest way to drop the engine out the bottom is to have access to Ford's tooling. ;-)

/\ /\ that would be the eaisest way for sure, but using the right jack points and supporting things fairly well I think it can be done in the garage. Even using a come along to raise the front end enough to roll the engine out from under it. Throw in a new k member and some coil overs when putting things back together sweet deal.

i think i probably will pull it from the top.ive always done it this way on other cars.and ford4v429 thats a real nice 65 you have.i have a 66 that needs to look that good.

I didn't perform the swap, but the shop pulled the engine from the top, no hood removal necessary.

Pull it from the top! Like TacoBill mentioned hood removal wasn't necessary, but its entirely up to you. Its only 4 bolts and maybe some piece of mind.

Old thread I know but..... From what I see here they left the AC intact and pulled the engine and tranny out as one unit? Looking at buying an Aluminator and just trying to see what's involved in pulling the engine.
