Unhappy

I just wanted to get some comforting because I feel bad I redlined my car today (over 5000 rpm and my revlimiter kicked in). :nono:

I was challenged to a little race with a 2003 GT that was apparently souped up. Before I knew it (in first gear) I was redlining and I shifted to second. It was a pretty rowdy race but a short one at that. To make a long story short I lost (barely) the race because traffic was in my line.

I feeling a bit guilty because I redlined the car before it's even broken in.

Anyone else redline their NEW car yet?

The only thing I would worry about is racing in traffic :nono:

As for the redlineing, I wouldn't worry about it. That is what the rev limiter is for, to protect the engine.

Eh, nothin' but a thang! I took mine to redline repeatedly the morning after I brought her home, with less than 150 miles on the clock

The factory puts it there for a reason........I'm sure it's a VERY conservative limit.Pay it no mind

A rev limiter won't help over-revving it with bad downshifts though, like 3rd to 2nd on accident at like the redline. The engine would spin up to 7000+ RPM probably when you let out the clutch and could toast the rods.

Don't worry.

If your car is the same one I test drove at the dealer, then it's the SEVENTH time it's popped the rev limiter!!!!!!

Don't worry about it man, I redlined mine out of the dealership. They always run better the harder you break them in. Me and my brother have been breaking 'em in like that since 1965. If you want it to run like Grandma's car, break it in like Grandma's car. If you want a fire breather, flog the livin' s**t out of it.

They run the engines at the engine plant to break them in, the days of going easy on it when new are over. You can beat on them from day one with no problem.

This sounds very similar to my first racing experience in the 05.

My buddy and I both bought ours the same week back in October...the first one at two different dealerships.
I bought mine on Wednesday, and we were both at the track on Friday w/ less than 300 miles on them...beating the he!! out of them. Rev limiter hit a few times. Have no worries, this is a FORD MUSTANG by the way.
