Rear seat conversion - replace with kids seats?

Has anyone done a rear-delete, but instead of just removing the rear seats, put in kids seats instead? I know that you can keep your seat belts with some (all?) delete kits, but kids seats would probably slide around a bit. Does anyone know if there's a kit out there specifically designed to allow for kids seats?

As I recall, for quite some time, there were a lot of people in here asking about the fit of child seats in the back of the new Mustang, so I know that a) I'm not the only person moving kids in my Mustang, and b) there is a market for something like this.

At 6'3", pretty much all I can fit behind me are my kids, so there's no need for my rear seat, other than as the base for the kids seats...

ROFL that this topic is in "GT Performance and Tech!"

That being said, I do have a child seat in my Vert for my 2 year old. It fits great into the LATCH anchors and I have had no trouble whatsoever (other than the loss of 40 hp from having a child seat).

No need to delete any seats! IMHO those people that use those plywood and carpet "delete kits" are making their car look a lot WORSE! Just use the LATCH and you'll be ok.

J3sus, what does a guy need to do to get a decent answer in here?!?

I couldn't find the Interior Mod's section (there used to be one, right?), hence Gt Perf & Tech.

I agree that the delete kits vacuum primate gonads. Yes, I DO currently have the kids seats anchored. Problem is, my 4 year old sits fine behind the passenger seat, but my 3 year old has to pin her knees to her chest to sit behind me.

I'm 6'3" and, to be honest, the seat behind me was only good up until she was 2. My bad that I asked a simple question, looking for a simple answer. Let me re-word - does anyone know if there's a process whereby I can remove the rear seatback, thus delivering the currently utilised pad-space to the front of child seats I have installed on my car. This gain of (x) inches will allow my kids to sit in somewhat relative comfort for the upcoming (y) years - hopefully until they are then old enough to sit in the regular rear seats.

Thanks for the dissection on the thread, though . Guess I'm not the only person with a few days off over Xmas and New Year.

People sure do like to bust ***** around here... I haven't seen anything like that and would be absolutely astonished and dumbfounded if anyone made one. I'm not saying that's not a good idea with a definate need, but I'm sure the aftermarket for that would be minimal at best.
You could always make one yourself, but I wouldn't take that risk. By risk I mean the risk of doing something slightly wrong and creating an unsafe condition for your kids, and also possibly violating part of a law regarding kids and carseats.
I'd say your only shot is to utilize a car customizing shop in your area for a one-off build. But if I were in your shoes, I'd save the money for a spare, more practical used car. Just my .02.

Whoa! Wasn't making fun of you celticstanger, I just thought that you were not using the LATCH system. Sorry about the confusion.

Kind of what I was thinking, re the AM producing one. I'd think that, as long as the belts and anchors were left intact, it should be legal/safe.

May try to do one myself.

We do have another vehicle, but when I'm home, I like to take the kids for a jaunt in the pony (and they love it too, despite the cramped quarters for the girl).

It may just come to it that I'll have to deny them until they're big enough to ride without a seat - the boy's almost there, so I'll eventually be able to take the kid seat out from behind me, move him over, and have the girl sit behind the passenger...

I know, I know - the "I won't comment" comment always gets a rise out of me, even though it probably wasn't meant with any malice either (who takes the time to write that they've got nothing to write?!?).

Apologies.

Is doing anything like even changing your seats legal ? If it came approved and all and you change it after the fact , especially when they test it and all to have it approved you know. Would one then not have to take it to a DMV to have it approved ? That would be cool if there were seats made tthat were a go to use for kids or differnt age groups.

unless you are an engineer I would suggest you leave your children's safety to the LATCh system. I, and you, would probably hate to see what would happen to them in an accident in an untested and modified rear seat setup.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills...
EDIT:
It just hit me - do people think that seat belts are fastened to the seats? Replacing the rear seats DOES NOT IMPLY REMOVAL OF REAR SEATBELTS/ANCHORS. Again, all I'm trying to achieve is something akin to the removal of the padding on the seatback, in order to afford more legroom.

I know, and I meant build your setup, but still utilize the anchors which are attached to the floorpan.

I can drop a car seat in the back but i dont think anyone has done a full conversion.

Heck the back seat isnt big enough for two grown people to MAKE babies....
